yup, that's spot metering and the point of focus is in a lighted area of the subject

there are different ways of shooting candids... you can be very quick and discrete so the subject won't become uncomfortable... or you can be very obvious to everyone around you that you are taking photos in the area... i do both depending on the situation

This is simply marvellous. Really contrasting and has that impact, i probably viewed this 5 times. Wonder when i can ever do such brilliant shot. ;p this guy machiam going for a big fight hehe
