Scanning Astia with Vuescan

Ok, I have tried massaging every possible setting on Vuescan, but all my Fuji Astia scans come out too dark. I'm using a Canoscan 9900F which I know, is quite not the best scanner out there. I have fiddled with the RGB exposure setting, but I simply cannot find something that can change the backlight setting. The Canon software allows for backlight compensation, but is there an equivalent in Vuescan? Advice will be much appreciated. Scanning slides has never been such a pain...

You will need to get your scanner calibrated by using an IT8 profile slide / print.
If you have the Vuescan pro version, the software can create the custom scanner profile.

Where does one get that?

I got mine from Wolf Faust in Germany.

The kit with 5 slides, 2 prints and CD cost US$90.

Which one did you get exactly? One thing is my Canoscan 9000F only has a center that is used to scan film and not the entire flatbed area.

Did you get the S1 package? How big are these things? The size of a standard film?
