Ask them what other initiatives/solution thay have taken to negate such increases in the first place. Not that they are facing keen competition and they have razor thin profit margin like those in Tech industry, 2% rise in GST shouldn't be that hard to negate.

they can say...if don't increase fare prices then we'll reduce the frequency of buses, cut the loss-making routes. then what?

Beside CYRN comment, the main issue the public have is why they keep raising their price, when the company keep having huge positive surge in yearly earning.

"Public" transport are suppose to serve people, now it seem to serve the share holder more

so what do you think is a reasonable profit margin on gross revenues? 1%? 5%? 10%?

That's always the easiest "threatening" answer. Then again, it just show how such "private" companies TOTALLY lack innovative solution... sighz... I wonder why we are paying increased fares for their increased Salaries..especially those wif huge pay packets that they can't turn around their company other than the usual slash and burn concept.

"World-class" comapny with "Third-world" mindset.... sighz.

Mmm why not you give us your solutions first? Instead of asking us to be obedient and accept all price increases?

well they could probably increase their amount of debt. from SBS's balance sheet doesn't look like they have any outstanding bond issues.

We are not unhappy over the price increase, we are unhappy every year they ask for price increase saying profits down, but each year profits increase not by a few percent but by 50 percent.....

I think this year they are saying their costs go up, not that their profits go down.

In line with Sg median salary + inflation.

You also didn't mention that their profit went up MORE. ;)

um...
there are only so many ways you can cut costs or raise revenue.
you want to suggest other ideas?

Sound so alike.... if you dont vote for us, no upgrading for you!!!

Hello this is a company, you find ways to hold your consumers not threaten them.... Imagine go buy camera from xxx camera brand, ask them sorry hah why your camera so user unfriendly... xxx brand would feedback and improve right? They dont tell you, "not happy dont use lah!! *E$%#@"

So similarly how can bus company always threaten us.....

Hey seriously why not YOU come out with some brillant ideas instead of asking us to blindly obey and not question. If you seem to know so much, can you let us know why bus companies are justified to increase fares every year? So far your reasonings all dont make much sense.....

??
I mean as a percentage?

No fixed percentage lah.

Every year, your salary changes mah. In bad times, we get pay cut, in better times we get pay rise.

Now not everyone get pay rise, they jump the gun and increase price of course draw a lot of flak loh.

Aniway, that one have to dig the stats in Dept of statistics... not sure figures are online for free.

um I mean what do you think is a reasonable margin as a percentage of their gross revenue? I mean like now rent out HDB flat people asking for 5-8% yield.

cut costs or raise revenue...which you prefer?

Cut cost without affrecting your customers.

Raise revenue without raising prices.
