SB600 or SB800?

i suggest getting the sb800. Its worth every cent. After which get a few sb600s and u can do CLS !

It's when you're using the sensor on the flash to measure the light instead of using the meter in the camera as in TTL mode.

Would it be more accurate if the reading is from the flash sensor?

No, in fact TTL should be more accurate, but having an AA or A mode would allow it to be used with the older manual cameras like FM2 and you don't have to do the distance/aperture/power ratio calculations yourself.

Dun think anyone will buy SB800 bcoz of the free diffusion dome and retractable bounce card.

If that's the reason, suggest you buy SB600, make a DIY bounce card, try out a omnibounce to see if you like it.

I would suggest you get SB600 first, to see if u like flash photography. If you like it, upgrade to SB800, won't make u lost much, even better, get an SB800 for CLS.

nothing is free in this world.... we "willingly" paid for the diffusion dome and the white card when we buy the SB800. After all, thats part of the price u pay for the extra $300.. Not forgetting the coloured gels, and flash stand etc.

If u want a better word, it would be convenience. The diffusion and white card thingy is built in nicely into the flash and u can pull it out easily, unlike the stofen and self made cards, which u can lose it..

Besides these "gimicks" which to me is not so important, the more important thing is that it has a higher guide number, allowing u to shoot a further distance. And of course, u can set it to be the commander and command other slave flashes. And of course, u can get a SD-8A or the quantum battery pack and connect it to the flash, so that u can obtain <1 second flash recharge cycle. For photography professionals like us, this kind of "speed" is of utmost importance.

There is an option to use 5th battery holder in SB800 (which holder is included on the package). Battery pack you need to buy separately.

4xAA or 5xAA, can use normal alkaline battery, Ni-MH or Ni-CD rechargeable battery.

No, that not the reason for me to buy SB800.

I buy SB800 because everyone here seem have better experience with SB800.

Better GN, can do SU4 flash slave mode, have A/AA mode, can become CLS controller, longer flash zoom head.
