Currently deciding between the SB600 and Di866.
So the Di866 is a worthwhile buy? :dunno:

Thinking of that too.
Both ard $400, but the Nissin Di866 looks more promising.

what is the diff b/t sb600 and Nissin Di866?
where is the cheapest place to buy?

Between the sb600 and nissin, the nissin is more powerful and has commander mode. Also got a built-in bounce card, which i think the sb600 does not have? I think nissin is about 30 bucks more than sb600, but the nissin is much more value for money i feel.

anybody bought a cap diffuser for the nissin Di866?

In fact I'm still figuring out what is the real value of SB-900? I watched an official DVD tutorial about Nikon CLS. Most of the time the instructor use his SB-900 only to trigger other flashes which are set behind him since the flash head can turn 180degree (SU-800 cant). So we are paying $700+ for just a powerful flash trigger? :bsmilie:

lol thats because its a nikon-sanctioned video on using nikon flashes for portraits.

the reality is that most pros would have opted for a pocket wizard/radio popper should they need the I-TTL capability, which of course would never appear in that video :) why would nikon shoot themselves in the foot?

anyway don't rely on that video too much. automatic power with compensation is not the way to go if youre looking towards learning to manipulate light or getting consistent results. if you're using manual power and have difficulty triggering flashes with CLS in certain situations (e.g. broad daylight, out of sight, out of range), can consider the yongnuo rf-602 :) it runs on the more reliable 2.4ghz freq compared to other 3rd party triggers which run on 433mhz.

The last I checked, none exist at the moment. The one from SB-900 could cover it but it doesn't fit snugly. The shadows looks similar using direct flash with the diffuser panel vs direct flash with the SB-900 cap diffuser.

Maybe the "real" value of the SB-900 (as with the SB-800) is that the AF-illuminator throws a unique pattern which allows the D90 to focus quickly on a plain wall in very low light. Hmm.. not sure why would anyone want to do that. :bsmilie:

I tested the Di866

One bonus is that the set is compatible with nikon and quantum external battery packs. Physically I tested a full-power and the recharge came at 1s which was good.

Commander and slave mode works as well both way

Does D90 build in flash able to trigger the nissin wirelessly?

Is Nissin Di866 able to trigger wireless by a Nikon D40x?
Is there any cheaper alternative for wireless trigger ?

There are a lot of ebay triggers out there. Or you can get them from the Mass Sales forum.

i am using the sb 900 now and works fine... easier to set compared to sb800 esp in wireless mode. i am fine with it. i have issues on 3rd party products so i chose to buy the same brand of my camera that i have. =)

so in another word.. this nissin Di866 can be treated as a 3rd party flash replacement over nikon SB900 - as cheaper alternative?
acting too like a SB900 allowing nikon cls with my existing sb600 for wireless trigger?

erm.. is Nissin Di866 able to trigger wireless by a Nikon D40x?
