If my understanding is correct, this is working correctly. When one choose to be metered on a particular "spot", the flash exposure would provide the power to provide correct exposure on the measured "spot", the camera CPU will not take care of the "backlight"(BL) anymore. So I would say the flash is working correctly when you get TTL without BL when siwtching to spot metering
ya, i think spot is correct, cannot choose. but centre weighted and matrix now also cannot choose.

So you mean that even with center weighted and matrix metering, still can not choose the TTL BL mode in the SB700 ? Even with AF-S/AF-D lens ?

Aik seng lucky plaza $430 w/o gst yesterday...

when in centrewieghted or matrix metering, only ttl-bl mode is available, cannot change to ttl.

Thanks for the clarification. As this is not an issue before with the SB800.

I don't know what is the reason, look like Nikon have made new modification for their new flash.

sorry never used a nikon flash before... but what is the difference between ttl and ttl-bl ... from my basic understanding, bl is some sort of compensation thingy?

how much difference does it make?

TTL-BL helps to compensate by balancing the foreground (subject) lighting with the background lighting. For example, if you subject is dark while the background is bright, the flash will output more light such that the subject is well exposed. If it's the opposite, it will slow down the shutter speed for you and do a low power flash to expose your subject while increasing the brightness of the background.

All these knowledge was from a video guide that I'd seen.

slow down shutter speed? cannot be leh....

That's slow sync so that more ambient light is included in the shot. It makes your photo more natural and reduces the flash look we are trying to avoid in photos.

So is it justified to spend a little more for this baby comparing to an SB600? SB700 owners any?

Just bought mine yest. :)

Guys, I wanted to buy a Speedlight and I'm not sure which 1 is better compare with SB-700 & SB-900.
Can you help me on this?
