how much for sb400 and sb600

Apart from the additional features which SB600 has, does both have the same flash power and give the same lighting effect ? To put it simply, SB400 is the same as SB600 (taking away the CLS features) ?

i think sb600 is a little stronger, by just a few GN.
in anyway i recommend sb600 over 400 anytime. ;)

Sometimes it is more on how you penetrate yourself into environment. How do you think people or reporter can take photos in those what you called 3rd world?

Arto.

Use simpler cameras??

For people looking for an alternative iTTL capable flash, here's one which sells for below $200 at Alan Photo. I think not many people are aware of this product yet. Advantages over SB-400 is that it has an EV control and AF-assist lamp.

Looks good, but the recycling time is 8-10sec...And btw, SB400 has better recycling time as compared with SB600/800.....

Due to the lowered GN

recycle time is usually defined for when the flash fires at max. power. When the SB-400 is firing at max. power, the SB-800 won't be at max. power at the same power level, so the recycle time of the SB-800 will be less than that stated.

Oic, make sense:) So, for this sunpak model of 8-10 sec recycling time will be faster when compares to SB400 18m at ISO100....thanks!

no... i did a quick google, sb400 is rated 21GNm while pf30x is 30GNm(ISO 100 @ ard 30degree)
but overrall i think sb400 is still much faster with a 2.5s refresh rate as compared to a 8s refresh rate of pf30x (using Ni-Mh)

I will take sb400 over the pf30x anytime... 8s refresh rate is just too slow even tho it is quite stronger than the sb400.

O, itz 21GNm huh? I remember wrongly as 18GNm. Thanks for the clarification.:)

Oh.. I just found out that the pf30x has compatibility problems with D2X. So I guess it might not be as good after all.
