Think you can post some shots for comparison's sake ? TIA !
6k is a lot of money...ask yourself, do u like to shoot or do you like to play with camera gear?
If it's playing with camera gear like a lot of folks around here...yes, upgrade to a 5d2 for the shiok factor. It is shiok, confirm. Period. Definitely, 2 years later, your 5d2 be about 1.5K in value. Standard depreciation.
if you like to shoot, Stick with ur current set-up. It's very good already. Maybe u can change ur cam to a second hand 40D, upgrade cost of $500. Invest the $$ in some reits...and be 10K rich 2 years down the road.
Well, if u absoultely must spend 6K, why not buy a film camera? Rangefinders are a lot fun...and 1K can get u superb cameras with superb lens + $400 for a film scanner. You got about 4.6K left to buy film and develop....it works out to be 850 rolls of film...( 30K of pics..). Shooting film has a magical feel to it...it lacks the instant gratification of digital cameras.
I started off like u, just 4-5 years earlier...buying every funny lens, upgrading to every new body , switch to other system...It's fun for a while. Until you realise how big a hole u burn.
Agree. Photography is not going to save you money but if it gives you pleasure in life, then why not? Like someone here said, if you are a gear head and by getting the gear that you want, you will be happy, then by all means put a bit of money into your hobby and reap joy and happiness out of it.Invest it in stocks. You can't go wrong if you have a 3 year view.

This is also a very good time to invest as well. But I know of people work hard all their life, save money for the future but two months into retirement, pass away due to an unexpected illness.
I do work hard, try to save enough money for the future but at the same time, if something I wanted is within my means, I will go for it even if I know it is going to lose half of its values in two years time. You can't compare the monetary value to the pleasure that you get out of it.
I don't advocate people spent future money on photography gears (i.e. pay by installment) as it is really hard to tell whether one will still have the job 3-6 months down the road. By committing to a 1-2 year installment loan, you leave yourself open to situation that you might have financial hardship should your employment status changed.

which i actually did!
i'm just hoping that my 10k portfolio will double or become ten-baggers in 4-5 years.
i think after all the contemplation and wise words from fellow snappers, i might just upgrade to 50D for the time being (from my small profit from stocks) and get better lenses instead of splurging hastily on a 5d2.
