Save the Commonwealth Games

I saw an Indian guy comment in newspaper - "India is not a poor country, it is poorly run country"

There are corruption everywhere at every level :(

20% of the wheat are eaten by rats while many people starve :(

The building collapse because most of the money for buying the building materials are in corrupted politician's pockets.

The contractor need to pay huge sum of money to corrupted officials to get the contract and they have little money to buy good material.

Dude, next YOG is in Nanjing not Nanking.

erm... in case you are not aware.....

南京 a.k.a. Nanking for a long time up till popularisation of Pinyin whence it was slightly changed to Nanjing.

This is the same city.
See their YOG site already up.
http://www.nanjing2014.org/en/

http://www.nanjing2014.org/en/nanjing/2009/1106/250.html
The details in the YOG website mention the massacre publicly.
" In December 1937, the Japanese troop attacked the city, and committed atrocities in the inhuman Nanjing Massacre."

I live in India, having been brought up in Singapore and studied in Los Angeles..

my 2 cents:

You should really live in this country to see what it's like to live here. About one third of all Indians are corrupt. Worst are the cops and politicians. They will do anything and everything to extort money from the poor. Luckily, I was born into a fairly wealthy family. I can't imagine what it's like for the poor. Every day is a struggle for them. In this country, money runs the show. The rich are extremely wealthy and the poor are extremely poor and the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. So... it's not surprising that the commonwealth games are a failure because of the political system. In my opinion they should have never awarded India to host the CWG autonomously. The committee should have monitored it all the way, knowing the kind of corruption that exists here.

Just go to Mumbai.. One side of the street you'll see houses worth tens of millions of dollars, and once you turn around the corner there'll be roadside tents with beggars living in them.

Bottom line.. India is just complicated. It's the world in microcosm.

Never mind.

India also produced

Gautama Buddha

and

Mohandas Ghandi.

Also Mother Theresa choose to spend a lot of her life there.

So there are gems amongst all that you described.

If I am an athlete representing the country, I will brave all dangers and not chicken out.

This is a sporting event. Not a war. Why put the athletes' personal safety at risk?

Act hero lo if you wanna stay there. Snakes everywhere! Dirty water.. I think it will leads to sickness? Sorry lor. I would never risk my sportman life in there. The athletes still want their family, and they still wanna play sports! :)

:D one word. FAIL.

delhi's snakes make yog small scale mild food poisoning look like chicken feed.

Snakes, collapsing beds and some of the walls are still smeared with human faeces. Things are improving but not fast enough I say.

The Singapore authorities gave the green light for the athletes to go.

It is easy to say "GO" because if anything happen, it will fall on the athletes and not them.

So it is only fair for these decision makers to go together with the athletes and see for themselves first hand what the venue and environment are like there.

Walk the talk ..... don't just talk !

:sweat::sweat::sweat:

do our sportsman and women have the options to pull out of this games?

The issue is India is a growing power and we seriously do not want to piss them off by doing a no show.
Who says politics and sports don't mix?

I'm sure they have a choice. But how it will affect their future sporting career is up to you to guess. ;)

Its like those company dinner. Director: "Okay guys, the global CEO from New York is here to host a dinner for everyone tonight, but its purely optional if you would like to join us, no obligations!"

hahaha. if my ass is gonna get bitten by a cobra......

sports itself is politics. in fact everything you do is politics. the very choice you make also involves politics. so cannot run from it..
