Hi all,

Here are some shots from Sangalaki. Only saw three mantas - one each on three separate dives. But great vis and corals

Some pretty large cuttlefish were also mating and lay eggs.

The jellyfish lake at Kakaban was a treat, and managed to do a little macro photography.

I like the close focus wide angle of the cuttlefish and sky. Almost like the Aaron Wong shot.
Jealous man i wanna go sangalaki too, heheh... :bsmilie:

Alvin, thats quite a compliment ah? But guess the keyword is "almost". Hahah.
I need more wide angle practice.

what are the improvements you see from the 400D to the 40D ??

I like the snell window ...

cool~~~
wish to go there someday ...
but, what is the thingy in ur hand??

Very nice pictures you have there... looks like the vis was very very good too!

Awesome!
The jelly fish looked like flying in the sky
& the diver looked like she was in space with a planet behind, for the picture that followed the jelly fish.
:)

Thanks guys.

Yeah thats a bob tail squid. The smallest ive ever seen. Cute as hell too.

bighead, the 40D has better focusing speed than the 400D and the custom presets are v useful underwater. There is live shooting as well, but i havent tried using it underwater. Im used to the viewfinder. I think the 40D sensor handles sunbursts better too. But thats rather subjective.

The 40D is a gem isnt it?
Hard to focus with the live view U/W, unless you & the subject both can stay absolutely still, might be possible for still subjects on land like flowers though. Use view finder faster. I also switched off the 9 point AF, use only the center point, & use the AI Servo for constant tracking of subject's focus point. The new 50D live view might have an improvement/faster, if it is similar to the Oly E420/520 type of Contrast Auto Focus for live view.

Great pics eudon... love the wide-angles (especially the cuttlefish ones and the corals with model)

seems you are using the 10-17 ? quite a versatile lens.

can share the price u pay for this trip? ;)

great pics eudon! the jellyfish lake with the "moon" behind.. is it for real??

how come got something in ur hand one ah ... tsk tsk tsk.. :nono: ...

the cuttlefish shoot from bottom photo is good too :)

excellent angle to shoot from!

what is the recommended lens for dslr underwater? do you go for ultra wide angle lens like 10-17 or to go for macro lens like 100 f/2.8? thanks!

Hey guys. thanks for the comments. :))

Gooseberry, the 10-17mm is great. Its as good as the 15mm Sigma, but will a little more wide angle.

Melshee, the trip was a special discount from the asia dive expo. 50% off!!! But thats 50% off the full "suggested retail". So it wasnt that cheap, tbh.

Beivied, yah sorry. It was a night dive and the guy appeared right in front of my friends mask. Without knowing what it was we put our hand to it and to our surprised he landed and sat on our hands!

Oh and thats not the moon! i think its my ds-125 strobe! :) I place it far in front and tried to light the jelly from the side.

Pauche, I think you need both wide angle and a macro. with crop factor of 1.5 or 1.6, 50-60mm macro is a good start. 100mm and long is more difficult as focusing is slower and camera shake is more pronounced.
