Hey bros I was thinking...Singapore known to be stable earthquake proof or whatever. So could you buy a crapload of rocks and sand and just add land to the country? China building islands out of shoals how come you cant do something like that? Whats the submarine environment around SG? Id rather hear from you bros than Mr Google...

The country have be reclaiming land from the seas aince independence... but due to SG being located in a very very busy shipping zone... there is only so much land we could reclaim without blocking or affecting international shipping. FIY... the casio that is Marina Bay Sands and Garden By The Bay plus the new CBD areas... are all built on reclaimed land... so is Changi International Airport...

We've also buy so much sand and rocks from the surrounding neighborhood countries... that they now refuse to sell us any.... and its getting very $$$$ to get materials from far away land...

Singapore started land reclamation since colonial time, this Thian Hock Keng was built in 1820 along the shoreline of Telok Ayer Basin. see the google map for where is the Thain Hock Keng and the current shoreline.

and today we have increased our land area by 20% after our independence.

but we can't keep reclaiming land forever, so we have to maximise our land use. do visit URA city gallery when you have a chance to visit Singapore, you will understand more what we have achieved today and the challenge we face in the future.

All the land from Marine Parade Road to the shoreline were reclaimed land from the sea, and all the way to and including the Changi International Airport to the East.

If you arrive at and leave from Changi Airport, you will be moving over reclaimed land
