Samyang 85 f1.4

Anyone had tried b4 sony mount Samyang 85 f1.4 ? hows the review ? planning to buy it from ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/Samyang-85mm-f-1-4-IF-MC-lens-for-SONY-ALPHA-UV-FREE_W0QQitemZ110491954566QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCamera_Lenses?hash=item19b9d56d86 price around US$340 i feel its a gd buy.

I believe this is a manual focus lens for what it worth and if u r dying to get an 85mm f1.4 its a good option.

Hmm i think this lens is sharper wide open while Jupiter isn't. At least my copy of jupiter 9 isnt. but the bokeh on jupiter 9 was very unique and beautiful.

I was thinking of getting this lens too but no budget.

Oh TS, try looking for the brand Rokinon. Exactly same thing but usually cheaper.

looking for feedback from sony users on this lens :sweatsm:

U can get the lens from Malaysia.. look at Mass Sale.. at

http://www.fotogears.com/estore

i just returned from KL and when i asked around the camera shops in Lowyat plaza all of them told me that its only available in the shops in northern malaysia?

But anyway, the prices seem higher than what you can get from ebay

Photozone has posted a review of the Canon mount version of this lens. Seems not bad, altho the level of sharpness at all apertures appear to be lower than the OEM lenses. Corners also very soft wide open esp on FF.

Hope this helps.

didn know it the aperture cannot be automatically controlled.
but i figure most people will be shooting at larger apertures for the 85mm
sounds like a really good lens for the price.

I recently came across links (that there are some sellers of this lens) that have included sony AF assist chips to the lens mounts (and this can also be done for the C and N families). This will allow confirmation that the subject is in focus and sharp.

Other link/seller (ebay) states the modified samyang f1.4 allows:
- SSS/AS stabilisation
- focus confirmation
- exif info
- compatiblity in program modes.

But i believe these are mainly done/modified by these sellers and i would like understand and ask would it be adviceable/wise (why yes and if not why) to go for this modified lens? Will it cause any damage to the camera (and void any warranty) or other factors?

would appreciate your thoughts.
