Hi,
By now, I think you probably would have a good idea how much an assistant photographer will make in a company. The next thing is to choose to work under the top photographer in the field in that you're interested in. Beg, borrow or work for free, there is no compromise. Learning the ropes of professional photography is largely a master/disciple thing, and you will pick up bad/good habits from your boss. So if your boss is the best in the field, you'll pick the right habits to give yourself a chance to be the best in the future. Most of markets in photography will only get worse. Only the best of the best will not only survive but grow & expand.
All the best
Wesley
No need to work with a top photographer. Work with a photographer which you have good communication and relationship with.
Once you in the boat, you got to start rowing as hard as you can. Some advice for those who wants to be an assistant.
1) Make sure you make good coffee!
2) NEVER BE LATE FOR WORK!!!!!!!!
3) Never speak or give advice to your boss (the photographer) client. Just let your boss know about it and let him handle.
4) TRY not to poach your boss client......not easy as the client will look for you for CHEAPER rates.
5) Prefer not to smoke unless your boss is a chain smoker......hehehe
6) We know you have a life but be flexible with your time. Please do not give excuses that you need to go out with your girlfriends or your buddies when you need to work OT. (OT is a norm thing in our industry). You will have enough time to rest. If your BOSS abuse you, report to the Ministry of Manpower.
7) Make sure you learn and remember those setups as your boss will ask you to setup.
8) Yes you are entitled to 14 days of MC each year but we never like to see that happening. So avoid MC.
9) Tidiness is very important as well. So you must be clean.........very clean!
10)Knowledge of Photoshop is a MUST!!!!!!!
Anyone else wish to add on?
