SAL35F18 reviews and photos samples

For the price I paid for the A55, I can't really complain about the finishing and it is certainly no worst then the 500d we have. ...guess we shouldn't be comparing S$1,000+ cameras to $4,000+ cameras.

For me, it's about the feature sets(Which I've put to good use) and like I said previously, my equipments were purchased to be used and not for looking at ! :bsmilie:

improve the quality n raise the price

Just came back from my japan trip.

Wow, thats cheap. where did you get in Japan that also allows you claim back tax?

last 3 b4 my bedtime.
it was damn dark then i remembered, my 18250 lens cant make it at night.
so i switch to my 35mm F1.8 and took the photos.
can really see the difference in low light capabilities! :)
i believe i have taken the fireworks video with it... gotta dig it out.. depending on whether u bros wanna see it.

:edit:
erm... cant remember if its bic camera (dua pao as labelled by my wife) or yodabashi camera, but both of them offer competitive prices.
furthermore i bought a new camera bag there, cant wait for a chance to use it :D

japan is nice!

can i check if 2 batteries is enough to last a day from am to late pm?

thanks

it depends on how u use your camera.
i only brought 2 batteries with me on my trip.
but so far only on 2 occasion did i manage to use both batteries
(universal studios 60+% and disneyland 30+% left on 2nd battery)

i did not use much of the evf and had dro off along with a whole bunch of stuff and hardly used any flash at all.

yep same for me... actually I have 3 batteries lols :P 1 x orignal 2 x 3rd party

1. Universal Studios (12PM-7:30PM) used 2 batts, 2nd batt @ 50% (nearly used up 8GB shoot raw+jpeg)
2. Zoo (11AM-5:30PM) used 2 batts 2nd batt like 20-30% left and fully used up my 8GB memory card (shoot raw+jpeg)

yeah more or less same as bro albertri

totally forgotten about the zoo lol, 2nd batt left 60%+ on that one.
i visited the ueno zoo, how about u?

1 original batt, 1 3rd party seems to be enough so far, depending on your usage, esp flash, evf and reviewing pics.

more importantly, 8gb is quite limited which is what i have as well currently.
thinking for going for 16gb or even 32gb when there's available cash :bsmilie:

If need F2.8 or above to be sharp, then wouldnt the 30mmf2.8 marco be a better buy if that lens can be sharp at F2.8? The 30mmf2.8 is one of the 5 lens in the pwp.

Hi Bro,

Its not that f2.8 is sharp! It depends on the starting point (max aperture) of the lens...

Lets say your lens is 35 f1.8, the max aperture is f1.8 to get good sharpness you usually need to stop down to f2.8.

Similarly if your lens is 30 f2.8, 2.8 is already its max aperture and you again need to stop down to f4 or f5.6 to get good sharpness :)

But But But... usually portraits are preferred not too sharp so shooting wide open give the softness and nice looking bokeh to your pics!

I hope I made some sense instead of confusing even further hehe...

ah but u see, the 30mm f2.8 is a macro lens which makes it sharper than a non macro lens.

I have both lenses and i can confirm 30mm @f2.8 is sharp.

this was shot handheld @ f2.8 without flash.
Heavily cropped though.

Hi guys, not sure if I got a lousy copy but my lens focus ring is kind of loose. Not that it will fall out but the plastic seems to have some freeplay while my 18-250 is nice and flushed. Wondering how's the build quality for most of you?

I received a 35mm F/1.8 as a gift and loving it!! Works as well as my 50mm F/1.8

Here is a comparison between two photos taken by 35mm and 50mm @ F/1.8.

This question may seem very amateurISH to some of you but I currently use the sal50f18 for most of my portraits. I'm looking for a wider lens so I was interested in the sal35f18. My question is is the width a substantial amount more to consider getting it? Doing indoor shots with the 50 is a bit hard since you have to stand back so far to catch a full picture...I'm hoping the 35 catches a lot more picture without having to stand back so far. Also...can anyone post a sample pic of one with the 35 and one of the 50 at the same distance for comparison???? Thanks guys!

If wide is what u need, go for 20/f2.8 or 28/f2.8 or better still sal 16-50 f2.8 assuming budget is mo issue. Although 35 f1.8 is wider than 50mm, I personally dont like the built...very plasticy for the price. Suggest u go to Sony store and request the lenses for demo. Bring your dslr body along to test.

There is also a sigma 30 f1.4 and slt compatible. Very fast lens, although it has pros and cons just like any lenses
