I will try again with the hood to see if it helps to improve.

Got mine just now at Cathay. I got visible CA at f1.8 and f2 and it went away around f2.8.

Here are 2 quick shots I took outside.

It is Chromatic aberration. The blue purple fringes or outlines you see in my 100% crop on the bus wheel nuts and the edges.

Here is more informations.

Yes, actually I observe that the CA in 35mm is better controlled, even at F1.8 as compared to 50mm.

It also does better than Nikkon 35/1.8 for CA too.

Overall, a respectable lens at a good price, definitely a worthy replacement for Sigma 30/1.4 or Minolta 35/2 for half the price.

 I agreed with you bro ! I used the Nikon 35mm f1.8 and 50mm f1.8 D and non-D, this is better

i will definitely go for one. ;)

the CA is quite bad here. and i dont really see spectacular sharpness. of course its not a professional lens aimed from prosumers. but judging from the sample pics it seems quite good for a 35mm prime. the sigma 30 1.4 is just too expensive.

sounds like good value for money lens!

Yes, for $350, there is no complain. The build quality is squarely aimed for budget conscious users but optical quality is definitely not too far off.

35/1.4G might cost ard 8x more expensive but its not 8x sharper isnt it? In fact sigma30/1.4 is also not 2x sharper as well.

So in absolute value, this lens is great!

Good value lens
Thx for the review bro

Got mine today as well, just waiting for go ahead from Sony about the grease on my A-mount adapter.

Sharpness and quality seems about there for a lens in this category. (I also use a 35/2 Nikkor with my Nikons which is a pretty good lens and quality on the 35/1.8 Alpha looks close). Will update with some pics and impressions as well once I'm up and running. Right now I'm just staring at the sealed box.. bleah : p

From the EXIF, the photo is taken with A550. Not sure why, but A550 sensor seems to "amplify" CA. If you can try it on other Alpha model it will be good.

Currently the price is how much ?;p

The next up for testing will be low light. Wanna see how it performs. :)

Any idea the RRP for this lens and how it is compared against Sony 35mm G f/1.4 (apart from the wider aperture and the weight)

The rrp is $369.

To be honest, those who bought or keen of this lens are those who cant really afford or want to fork out more than 2k for a 35mm lens, so in a way not much people would have chance to compare them side by side.

Why not you be the first to do that since you have 35G? ;)

both taken with hood now.

No point la, this is a DT lens, so is for APSC sensor. No need to try compare it with a 35mmG.
