ya, it isn't. but well, i guess u can make do with other functions.. like using the timer function. =]

since a tripod is deemed a necessity when it comes to shooting fireworks (esp. when long shutter speeds are used), i reckon using a lower ISO is feasible. afterall, i'm sure u'd want a clean n nice shot after hours of anticipation, yup? ;)
timing my shots will come a little risky especially when i have no prior experience on the take of fireworks.. but well.. looks like i've got 2 chances now cuz i just won the tickets to the NDP preview tmr.

so i'll just go ahead with a low iso, prolly 100-200, a tripod, 2 secs timer, Aperture: f2.8, and a shutter lag of about 1-2 secs.

hows that?

certainly like you and everyone else.. we dont wanna waste the shots.. its better i wont act smart but ask for some tips beforehand. hehe.

its a nice shot, just lack of a little composition, but the fireworks speaks a thousand words.
mind sharing your settings? :D

i would need some advice for tmr. :D

haha.. thanks! actually this is an old pic.. when i was stilll a noob..:bsmilie:
i dun quite remember the settings coz this was taken years back..
but from what i see here on the ADOBE bridge's metadata, its:
ISO 100
F/8.0
3.0
WB: Shade
taken on a bag as a tripod.. that point of time can't afford tripod yet..:embrass:

you may wanna try other WB setting though..
good luck!

After nearly 5 months of laying off photography, I decided (last minute) to drop by Marina East to take a few shots yesterday.

Have not post-processed all of them yet. 2 shots of 2 different tones here due to different lighting conditions, exposure (silhouette effect by using negative compensation for 2nd shot) and post-processing:

Two more : As expected, unlike in the past before the floating platform was built, fireworks facing isn't good now from Marina East. So if you want to take nice fireworks, must go to Marina Bay (Integrated Resorts) and surrounding areas.

i havent tried to play with the WB settings yet, not very good at that yet.. hmm i tried with the settings on that day, turns out to be too bright already, had to make the shutter faster.. will tuning the WB help?

Clockunder: nice pics! unlike my poor takes. haha :)

I don't think changing the WB will help. It's the exposure which needs to be altered. (aperture + shutter speed + ISO).

In most situations where there are too many blooms shot at one place, need to use F/8-F/11 and about 2 seconds at ISO 100.

But then such settings usually cause the foreground and/or background to be under-exposed (buildings in the background usually require F/8, 8 seconds at ISO 100 for nice exposure at night).

So the solution is to use a tripod and before the fireworks, take a few frames of the landscape with F/8, 8 seconds @ISO 100, and in post processing later, use one of the frame as a "screen" overlay to provide a nicely exposed fore/background.

Ok, here are my takes for the NDP Preview :

Camera : Fujifilm S6500fd

Event : National Day Parade Preview

Shooting location : Marina East (adjacent to Tanjong Rhu)

Date : 2nd August 2008

Time : 6.30pm - 8.30pm

After 5 months laying off from photography, I decided in the last minute to drop by the above location to take a few shots. As the location is remote from the event, the photos are unable to capture the high spirit or the vibrancy of the event. The pros of such a location were that there was no traffic jams (people nor car) and I could arrive at 6.30pm and there were still lots of space for me to pick my shooting spot.

Here, the story begins .......

Google for "Photoshop blend" or "Photoshop Screen"

In this case, I used a tripod and took the scene with the "appropriate" exposure to have nicely exposed foreground and background before the fireworks started.

With the same framing on a tripod, I took the fireworks with F/8-F/11 at about 2 seconds (-4 seconds) at ISO 100.

During post-processing, I select "All" of the whole frame of the nicely exposed frame, copy and then paste it over the fireworks picture. Then I change the Blend mode to "Screen", resulting in combing the 2 frames together. After layer - flattening the image, start to adjust contrast, etc.

To remove smokes, use the burn tool ..."Midtones, 3%" and then use the burn brush to go over the smokes until you're satisfied.

Bought my 6500 2nd hand from one of the brothers in this thread.. didnt have the opportunity to go out and shoot large amounts until recently, here are some pics..

Few questions:
While shooting at the zoo.. the pictures turned out with abit of whitish tint.. Need to do colour adjustment to get rid of it?

When I tried manual mode (increasing shutter timing) to capture the water fall effects.. all the imags turning out overexposed. At 4", all the F numbers i tried to set to turned Red.. Any recommended setting to shoot such effects?

This camera quite shiok for a newbie photographer like me.. pity tt it doesnt have image stabilization.. any recommendations for an equivalent class prosumer with IS?
