many thanks. looks like the basics of steady hands applies as usual, haha.

hi there, i was thinking the same as you. You may wish to look at the review at thinkcamera. http://www.thinkcamera.com/news/article/mps/UAN/343/v/2/sp/

their verdict - "If I wanted to buy a bridge camera right now I'd get a Fujifilm S6500fd. If I wanted to buy a budget DSLR with a travel zoom then I'd also think long and hard about whether the S6500fd wasn't a better choice. It's between £50 and £100 cheaper than the S9600 and unless you need the extra pixels I think it's a better buy. It will also save you £100 - £200 off the price of an entry level DSLR and be somewhat easier to live with. The face detection isn't perfect - many times it just doesn't work yet but I like to see it as a handy bonus. This is a great camera with face detection thrown in."

overall, i agree with felixcat. Features-wise have to research if really need them (esp the hotshoe and command dial for manual controls) . Either case, I think both are great buys.

features wise 9600 very few extra than 6500 but 9600 might juz sway me over, notably the hotshoe, the manual command dial, the vertical swing screen (juz a novelty to me but great to let friends wow over it), both xD n CF card able. dimension wise only deeper than 6500. weight of coz heavier. price-wise can start to think abt other brands of bridge cams but stil much much lower than entry level new DSLR (savings of > $500 still significant). pic quality-wise same as 6500 from what i see.

on the other hand, 6500 has face detection altho well.. its not perfect. there's also ISO3200 for the realy crazy shots haha.

being torn between the two shows how well positioned they are with prosumers not going too wrong with either.

Weight wise, the 6500 is lighter.

;)

That was also the major deciding factor for me, weight. I wanted a great all-in-1 with low weight. I've also learnth how to take decent overhead shots w/o swivel screen.

9600 in my opinion wasn't worth the additional additional wt to lug around when I hardly use the hotshoe & swivel

that is true. When I bought the S2 IS, after a while I regretted as there was no hotshoe, but slowly I realised it did not matter as I did not use flash at all if I can..

So in the end, turned to Fuji... ;)

natural light gives the natural ambience and warmth of the mood. Strobe make the pix very harsh

Hi mate, thanks for the input... :)

I got the S9600 anyway :embrass: ... I will be taking outdoor most of the time, felt the extra pixs might help...:D

Only if you're printing large sized prints like A3 size and above. Higher res comes with its own limitations as well, like noise. Anyway, just enjoy your new toy and take lots of pics!

May I know how much and where you get the s9600 from?

Also, any idea what's the differences between this and the s9500 that it replaces? anyone used both can comment the differences?

For prosumer cameras, the 9MP vs 6MP isn't going to get you more details because the limitation is in the resolution power of the lens.

Having more pixles without increasing the sensor size will only result in more noise under dim light condition where the signal to noise ratio is lower.

From the numerous reviews and pictures I've come across, the outdoor picture quality of S9600 does not outperform the S6500fd. For indoor and dim conditions, the S6500fd picture is better because it has less noise as a result of larger pixel pitch (i.e. lower pixel count on a similar sensor size).

So practically, the extra you're paying is mainly for the hotshoe and swivel LCD screen.

If you're into sports photography, then the S6500fd is better because the extra pixels in S9600 cause it to have a lower continuous shooting mode (1.5fps for S9600 vs 2.2fps for S6500fd).

I got the S9600 @ S$660 with a bag after GST. :D

Do a search on S9600 the most of the reviews mentioned the improvement of the S9600 compare to the S9500. ;p

If I remember correctly, the main improvements are the auto focus speed and the image quality in low light. :)

Anyone else bought the 9600 recently?

Just wondering if the prices are different again at the moment.
