S5Pro - Firmware update/upgrade.

This is a follow-up from my previous post.

On Wednesday, I brought my S5 Pro to Fujifilm Singapore for the technician to evaluated. He did not find any problem with it. He added that as long as the camera does not 'freeze' halfway through the firmware upgrade, all is fine.

I tested it out while grocery shopping in Little India yesterday morning. The camera behaves normal and I did find shooting RAF slightly faster under the new firmware. ;)

here is a dummy question ....

I have done the firmware upgrade and got the confirmation of a correct upgrade

I went into the camera firmware version to take a look and got this :

Version No : 1.12
Firmware A : 1.03
Firmware B : 1.12

And I have the pointer on Frimware A ....

So what gets? Am I on Firmware A (1.03) or Firmware B (1.12) Or is these 2 seperate things

2 separate things. my guess is firmware A handles the core functions of the camera while firmware B handles the features you find in the menu. maybe someone close to fuji can give us a more definite answer.

I followed the instructions on the fuji website but still cannot upgrade the software. It keeps saying "no memory card loaded". But there is a memory card inside! Cannot copy the file over. Anyone has a clue? :dunno:

Hello Fotophilic

How did you manage to resolve the above problem as I am stuck with the same issue and I am using imac.:(

Have u tried using a Fuji camera formatted CF card?
I formatted a CF card using e camera internal function n used e same card to do e upgrade. Did not hv any problems.

i'm using a mac and here is what i do.

1. format the CF card on the s5
2. insert into a card reader attached to mac
3. FPUPDATE.DAT into the CF card icon on the desktop
4. eject CF card
5. insert CF card into s5
6. switch on s5 while holding the DISP button

The Fujifilm technician once told me that Firmware A is the camera's original and core firmware. Firmware B is the upgraded or added-on firmware.

The blue triangular arrow is pointing to the core firmware, because that is where your camera gets its operating instructions from. The upgrade firmware is just an add-on or to correct the instructions.

Similar to Windows operating system. The core program is the first to be installed into the computer. Subsequent, upgrades or improvements are added later.
