Damn... I was hoping i could just avoid all DX lenses.
But i also read that the Sigma 12 - 24 is FX. I'm not sure about this.

Sigma 12-24 is also a DX lens. If you are thinking of going FX, invest in the Nikkor 17-35 instead IMHO.

Damn... Guess i'll just have to forget the idea of a future upgrade.

hi everyone, I'm around too. Got my S5 in the last batch. now using it with T17-50 and N70-300vr.

eh Chef, Sigma 12-24 confirm is a FX lens http://www.sigmaphoto.com/lenses/lenses_all_details.asp?id=3236&navigator=1

I shoot everyweek but seldom post my pics here though ;)

Oh yeah...my mistake. SmileGerard, I think you can consider the Sigma 10-20mm. For me, I will still pick the Nikkor 17-35mm, unless you want to invest in the Nikkor 24-70mm to complement the 10-20mm.

Sadly, they cost a bomb man... I was leaning more towards the 12 - 24 compared to the 10 - 20.
But they cost quite a bit of $$$

Your equipment list looks good. All you need is a cheap and useful Nikkor 55-200mm VR, which costs about $300 brand new IMHO.

Anyone tired it with the sigma 30? The s5pro and the afd 50 f1.4 seems a perfect mate

actually i was considering of getting a zoom lens abt two weeks back. Almost got a sigma 70 - 300. But it wasn't a DG it was the old G version or something. So i didn't. But personally, i kinda like shooting wide much much more compared to shooting zooms. I don't use that tokina anymore. I'm just saving it for the day i upgrade to full frame. Or decide to get a film camera. I'll have a look at that 55 - 200. $300 is very very tempting...

Bro, that lens is beautiful.... My friend has that 30mm on his S5. I was choosing between that and the voigtlander 58mm. But my reason was very simple. It wouldn't be of much use if one day i upgraded. I wanted someone thats "FX ready"

Hi eejal...saw ur email..surprised that you managed to find me...:) for me S5pro is still my workhouse for events, etc...I use LX3 when i wanna go really light...…

same for me. ;)

I put on the Nikkor 17-55 if I use the S5 Pro for my everyday shoot. The battery grip is always on. It is great for portrait shots.

wow bro...i can imagine you having big biceps :bsmilie: 17-55 is wayyyy to bulky for me. ive got small palms...
i tawt u have that 16-85 of urs?

this lens is awesome. i remembered one of the S5 user in here using that lens. was it lunas or somebody else?

S.G.... no offence me asking, is there a need to go FX? (if fuji got FX i can spend some more..hheheheheh)

I don't really see much of an upgrade if lets say i got a D300 as my next camera in the near future. So thats why i would go FX. Its like if you have a car that's a 1.6L, your next car if you consider an upgrade would be like a 2.0L right :)
But thats just me so yea...
Bigger sensor = Bigger surface area = More light = Better ISO = Lower noise = Better night shoots. (ok just taking crap here)
I don't actually plan on selling the S5 because it does its job well. Has excellent colors. And there for it will be my spare cam when i do upgrade.
The other reason is because of my lenses. The 17 - 50 will remain on the S5 but the tokina 28 - 70 would be just right on a FX. Even the voigtlander would have almost similar to the range of 35mm. Its the only way to bring out the full potential of the lenses.

Haha...true also...since we bought a rather good performance car to begin with...:)

i hardly use my s5pro these days except for events and weddings. I doubt i will upgrade soon as it serves me well so far. thought of switching to canon but since i rarely use it i drop the idea. these days shooting with compact and seagull TLR :P

I only went for 1 event shooting Lee Min Jung at lluma so far.
Might go SIN2009 this friday/saturday. I've used it at the zoo,
Sungei Buloh and chinese garden but find the reach not enough
for birds. So I'm getting Tamron 200-500mm.;p

LOL.. then the Sigma 30mm is a heaven match.. I have both and the sigma wins everything from color, sharpness, bokeh and build... except focusing speed slightly slower then the 50mm

same for me. ;)

My 16-85 is fixed on my Nikon D50. I use this combination for my overseas trips. Very light.

The S5pro colour is very nice especially for F2 film mode. I usually pair it with 50mm f1.8 or 24-85mm f3.5-4.5 for travelling.

I tend to use F1B much more often. F2 when i'm taking scenery or something. But it depends...

F2? more contrasty colors?

yeah, me too... F1B for my wedding shots.
I dun need to adjust the colors that much.. you can take a look in my website if you are keen at the colors, Tru.My.Lens Photography .

Haven't try Sigma's 30mm. I tried the AFS 50mm, the AF is pretty slow. I would get the Sigma version if I need a 50mm.
