Hi guys,

I really like the extra features the chdk brought to the camera, RAW and longer exposure are already enough to make the SxIS cameras a killer compact. I was just a little skepitcal about the 1/33,333 sec of shutter speed, was thinking if it can be achieved mechanically.:)

Nothing important here, nice pic is more important.:D

Hi lastboltnut, if you are interested, here's the thread documenting the journey of the guy who developed chdk for the s5is.

http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=3158d237a44f6fe17a62035a6995e237&topic=234.0

I don't know whether 1/33333 is the exact shutter speed of the camera, but all I'm concerned about is that chdk does adds some functionality to the camera, eg 60s shutter, RAW etc and that helps me to get more acceptable photos in challenging environments :p

Ya , u right, we dun need such high speed to freeze water droplet, it is just that more function to be played or rather added function..
until now i still dun know how to set it to the fastest speed? what i have done is to set at 3, at a factor of 1/100k, is that right? the image very dark ?dun know hat i have done... em.. anyone , what is your setting?

if anyone has realised this issue (or has it been discussed before) pardon me for bringing this up...

i find tt Canon S5IS night shot cant reeli outdo any DSLR out der even at ISO80 :sweatsm:
sorry to do such comparison, but it looks like ISO 800 for those nite photos tt i took with S5 in ISO80 :(

e resolution isn der, pics look smudgy, are there any softwares to do PP for this issue?

This is the law of physics....small sensor = more noise....I think you have to live with it....use flash if you can....S5 is a much better camera then S3 because of the ability of mounting external flash.:)

But, how can ISO80 looks like ISO800????:dunno:

perhaps exaggerated abit more.. haha.. iso 80 looks like iso400 on my ex-nikon d80.. haha :sweatsm:

will S5 replacement use those 1/2.3" sensor found in some latest cameras?

O, you are comparing S5's ISO80 with D80's ISO 400......

Hey Kero, Kero, the future not us to see....:bsmilie: Ask Canon if they are going to use 1/2.3" in S6. Should be out this year right?:)

Hi all,

like to know what is the lowest selling price for a S5IS now and where to get it. Preferred a made in japan piece. Also heard rumours that S6IS might be announced. Anyone knows anything about this???

Wow the moon looks nice.

Tried to shoot moon last night wit the max digital zoom but the camera cannot capture the detail. :dunno:

Any good advice for the setting to capture the moon? Hope all of you can give suggestion appreciate it a lot ^__^

I personally don't use the digital zoo....no point, it is the same as cropping in PP....No details, could it be due to handshake? Could it be overexposed? Posting of your pic and settings will help.:)

I've checked around (PC show , shop) , all is made on china nowadays.....

I just bought it and it cost me $620 with 4GB sdhc , 4 battery charger GP ReCyko, digital kit.

IT show = 699 with 2x 4GB sd card, charger, case, digital bag and card reader.

Dunno whether it's a good deal or not...

I bought it from a famous shop in Funan ;)

Hi lasboltnut,

Thanks for your advice, but i need some basic setting e.g AV , focal point , im newbie here heheh want to shoot the moon without any extra lens....

I tried without digital zoom but the moon looks small and cannot see the detail...

oh im so confuse

Did you try setting the metering mode to "spot metering" ?

Yah, if you are in matrix metering mode, very likely that the cam "thinks" that the scene is too dark and therefore overexposed your moon, so all details become white.:)

Btw, the 432mm zoom is good enough to shoot the moon, just that you have to crop to see it larger....:)

Did you try setting the metering mode to "spot metering" ?

thanks Raymond, I'll check and try it again tonight

just got my S3IS gonna post some pics soon:thumbsup:

Nice close up! By the way, you said you used some close up filters are used, where did u attached them? Between the adapter and the lens? Can reveal how much does Sony VCL-DH1758 tele-conversion lens cost? Thanks!

Yes, I fixed the close-up filter between the adapter and the tele-conversion lens.

My Sony VCL-DH1758 tele-conversion lens is a used one, bought it from a nice gentleman for less than $100.

Have you tried full manual mode? Try around f4.0, 1/100.

For the camera, set IS to shoot only. Also, if the auto focus does not lock, use the manual mode. Try setting focus to infinity, and taking a shot. If that seems blur, make the focus just one notch below infinity.
