some say good, some say no good, money so prescious- can't afford to buy another dissappoitning camera!
swining back and forth. u got a tip or two??? would certainly appreciate. anyway how did u make up your mind when buying S5 IS???

Sorry for the late reply. I got mine on the spur of the moment, probably paid too much at Denki, but it really is a very good camera.

One thing I notice about Canon digicams, the pictures turn out to be very sharp compared to most other brands, even those sporting Leica lenses. Conclusion: its more than the lense, its the total package. I also like the fact that it has "face recognition" - makes it a lot easier to focus on a group where the people are not exactly centred. Another feature which I like is the AP/Shutter priority and manual settings. For those wanting a bit of creativity/control, this is great for advanced amateurs. The preview screen allows you to "see" how the shot would appear before shotting, really cool. Another plus is the flash hotshoe, since most built-in flashes are practically useless beyond 10 feet.

On the negatives, the accessories are expensive if you get Canon originals. I wanted to get a wider view than the stock 36mm for those group photos, so I ended up with a compatible wide converter. Its also a bit of a pain to have to use the lens adaptor just to put on the wide/tele converter, but that's how it was built anyway. For flash, I also got a compatible flash with full bounce/tilt capability and it works just fine. Shot my daughter's birthday celebration with the bounce and the shots turned out very nice, plus the recycle time was amazingly quick.

So if you are still hesitating about getting this cam, I'd say don't wait. At street prices ($700+) its a steal. Accessories I got from Alan Photo at SLS, they were kind enough to let me test their demo unit.

dun care price le! welcome to the S5 family :)

this is nice.. though composition wise, would have prefered the leaves not be blocking the bird and frame slightly lower..

anyway..

Thanks J-Chan and iskofil. I was shooting a dragonfly when this bird suddenly landed on a nearby tree very close to me. So I just point and shoot it! Will take note of your comments on the next encounter.
Thanks
Raymond

try not to shoot handheld landscape at night, you'll be disappointed with the outcome...
try to put your cam on top of anything stable..... never handheld :nono:
