I've got a bad experience at SLS, was accompanying my friend to look for his LCD monitor.. So I thought since I was there, I might as well ask for the prices of my upcoming camera too - D90 or D300.

Well, I know it's not the best place to shop for photo equipment, but I went ahead instead as I'm already there. Was quoted $2000 for the D90+kit, I was shocked beyond words (as I know it's around $1650). I told him it's expensive in a polite way.

He went, "How much you want?" Then I told him I don't know, and ask for his best price. He lowered down to $1800. I told him, still too expensive.

Guess what, he called his colleague and said,"eh, this guy thinks this price is expensive" and gave me the look. Like I'm a cheapo. First time, I encounter such service. After that shop, I gave up on SLS. Don't bother buying or even asking there at all.:thumbsd::thumbsd::thumbsd:

Honestly, I would rather pay extra for good service! Not extra for lousy service.

the infamous SLS. :bsmilie: think abt it, it could be worse if u have already purchase something frm them. maybe shd go those reputable shops like John and Cathay.

Count yourself lucky since you still able to walk out in one piece :sweatsm:

Better elsewhere for your camera needs. But to be fair, not all are bad there if you know where / who to find.

if you are not keen to buy, don't need reply to the shop keeper..

and you shouldn't comment on the price, since you know what kind of place is this.

You've never heard of Sim Lim Square?

went going SLS is like a war zone if you are not arm "prepare" they will fire you to ground dead only go for shop there has been recommend by CS :bsmilie:

Sim Lim Square... They quote me $1047 for Sony a200 single lens kit when the RRP is $888

My wife got cheated buying a Lens from SLS...Called asking for a replacement but was told flatly 'NO'.

SLS is not for newbies; you go there knowing exactly what you want to buy.

Indecision is swiftly punished.

Haiz.... if you know you going to get bad bad service, why do you want to expose yourself to such nonsense.

Asking prices if fine, but since they give you the 1st quote with such a riduculous price, just walk out. Not really sure what you're trying to achieve by bargaining down. I myself can't stand sacarstics remarks passed by these unprofeesional merchants. I think once is 1 too many times.

Actually going to the reputable shops, often has prices which are much better. SLS is for tourist and newbies that did not really do homework.

going to the mountains when you know there is tiger.

1) last time i went with a classmate..he's a foreigner. he's buying a walkman so he went into a shop and the boss took a new set and unopened for him to see. because of some bad build quality and friend ask poliltely if he can open another set? but he said:" You are a disgrace to singaporean!"

2)went into a shop and asked the price of a digital camera...price ok so i told him i wanted it. to my amazed...the staff set up another camera to tv and told me how superior tat camera is to the 1 i wanted. i told him no, i juz wanted tat camera. after wasting my 30mins....he said no stock.

luckily i'm not scam but their attitude amaze me. lessons learned...i'm not going to sls to buy any electronics (except reputable 1) from those gangsters and ah bengs. they are such a shame to singaporeans..bunch of rubbish. :thumbsd:

yep. not dat i am not sympathic... but i dun think TS is a noob until dunno abt SLS.

if you go there knowing that SLS is such a place... sorry, but if you kenna this type of treatment, there's really no place for you to groan abt it.

the thing is,

everyone knows that it is a bad place, but they go and ask anyways. then some get tempted and buy. then after that realise they got chopped like big fat carrot, then come and wail about their sob story.

avoid it like the plague, instead of complaining that this organisation never do this or that. everyone has limited power when it comes to open market concept, so the strongest vote comes from your WALLET, and ACTIONS. show the people who run these businesses that they cannot play it that way, make sim lim square a ghost town. going there "because i was just around the place" just encourages them, or the ang moh tourists that do not know any better.

I was thinking of starting a list of shops that Clubsnap members have problems with, or locations and areas that if you wanna shop there dun complain type. Just not sure if there are legal implications, especially much of our experiences have no physical nor recorded proof. There is simply too much cases of people still going to questionable places, getting conned or insulted, then coming online to complain. My take is that you RESEARCH FIRST then you BUY the EXACT product that you have researched. If the shop decides to sell you something else, just LEAVE. Simple? (yah right)

Aiya you know they quote higher don't comment in their face anymore lor. Some shops are not for the ill informed.

To TS, if you want to warn people about the shop, name it.
By the way, I noticed you started another thread regarding world camera...makes me wonder why you chose these shops.

I work there:lovegrin: selling CCTV and Telephone (home and Office). i agree with most ppl here. SLS buy computer product OK, but not electronic item like digital camera, TV etc. (always saw Police at shop bally and other shop on the 2nd floor) even i who know ppl there can't get a good price there. if buying from there check your price first. if price too cheap be careful.
