Rubber surface peeling off......

It's not specific to Nikon although more common. Canon using colleagues have the same problem as well. As to why it happens for some and not for others, it depends as well, upon how you use your camera (as in your grip method) and also, luck of the draw.

Nikon do literally use double sided tape to hold the rubber on, at least for some bits, and this works generally very well. At any rate, Nikon SG won't allow user-replacement, Nikon US will mail the parts for a nominal fee (like, under US$5 and shipping) and thereupon it's a 2 min fix, no fuss. And Nikon UK, bless their cotton socks, will ship the parts for absolutely nothing.

That's very nice of them! Nikon SG wants $25 for parts and labour for replacing the rubber grip of my Coolpix 950. The 2nd time it fell off, I can't be bothered to replace it anymore. Just remove the double-sided tape. ;p

Yeah like I said, bless their cotton socks. I paid Nikon SG S$25 to replace the CF door on my D1 as well before I knew better... now I have an "extra" one sent up and kept away so I always have a replacement rubber bit and tape so that I can replace one when necessary.

well, i had a melting back on my F70-D a while ago., looks like i have a sweaty face & nose. Use zippo to clean it off, took the whole night:(
