Never say u cannot stand outside & shoot.

just wondering... and pardon my ignorance... what's the rationale for prohibiting the use of telephoto lenses above 500mm?

This is what I gathered:
Anything 500mm and above are considered as spyglass, serious stuff that are capable of taking pix that might be used by potential terrorist.:nono:

Any lens less than 500mm are considered as harmless toys, used by amateurs for play-play only and cannot cause any harm at all, even handled by big birdshooters, ex-snipers or sharp-shooters. ;p

Last time they have the aerial display, now they got the Apache to show off..... they even have the guards unit to support them in doing the heli-repeling in the last open house.

Oh.... guys, you might want to check out the flight simulation centre to take a look at their F5, F16 simulator, but i am not sure if they are open up this year.

Security Advisory

We want you to have a safe and enjoyable time at the Open House. For your safety, we will be conducting security checks for all visitors to the air base.
In order to have a speedy entry, you are advised:
Not to have sharp object like penknives, paper cutters, etc

if bring TC 2x n 200mm len? still allow??

tc 2x with 200mm = 400mm
er that should be mathematically allowed i guess.

Dun worry la, just put the tiny TC inside your handbag. When the RP check, they only check your gearbag, they no check handbag one la. 2 x 200 = 400 still not so long leh for any flying bird. :) :)

Hi all

Regarding the above event, anybody wants to lead it?

Then we will PM our names and contact numbers so that we can all keep in touch as the date draws nearer.

Regards,
Clipper

I remember the same rule applied at the open house last year but they were not enforcing it very strictly. I saw some checking being done on some people with camera equipment but no one looked at my gear, not that I had anything beyond the allowed focal length. I did have a telephoto zoom on me and thought the security personnel might at least be interested what length it was.

2x 200mm still need to multiply again the dsld factor.. 1.5x..
so 2 x 200mm x 1.5 = 600mm...;) ;p

The crop factor doesn't count IMO. In camera cropping is not beri different from cropping in PS - where you can crop 2x, 4x or as much as you like to - only limited by the resolution and sharpness of your original pix.

So, if you look like cool James Bond or Jane Bond, they might check you more thoroughly. But like me, if you look like a geek or a nerd or blurr like sotong, then sure even a 1000mm mirror lens they let you pass la. :bsmilie:

wonder those who gaffered their lens, will you be asked to remove the gaffer tape when they check? heheheee....

That's an easy one - just use a ruler to measure the physical length la. A rocket scientist got the formula to convert physical length to focal length. :what: :bsmilie:

The alternate way to interprete the warning is that lenses of more than 500mm physical length are not allowed. Even EF 600mm is only 456mm long. Try at your own risk to bring it in. :)

Read on a mailing list that security personnel at an overseas concert were checking for lenses longer than 100mm externally. :bsmilie:

Hehehehe and Thanks I got it.

Will bring a 400mm and TC1.7 inside my pocket nobody would know. Don't think the RP/MP are so smart.   :dunno:

YMMV
