Everyone is free to interpret her press interview and this is how I see it.
"Reporter: Do you think you have disappointed Singaporeans?"
"Ris: Not really, but I am disappointed with myself. If I can do it again, I will not make the same mistake."
She's being oblivious to the fact that on the stash she's carrying, it spells "Singapore" and not putting into consideration to the sentiments and insult caused to the the folks. Just as sleaze in art and hobby is repulsive and repungent (like trying to sell porn as works of Leonardo Da Vinci) it is of a significant but degenerative insult. Instead of showing some maturity in admiting a deed and moving on, she's blaming on not having a chance to turn back time to undo it.
"Ris: Of course I am not willing. I don't want to give up my dreams. But if the organisers want me to, I will accede to their request. It would only be fair."
She's banking on the the compassion from some of the same folks who went all out to defend her when she blew up her interview on Razor. However, the half-hearted quest for compassion comes undone when the underlying self-interest over-rules her statement and stood louder.
"Ris: In the beginning, they did not know, but when I signed the contract, I informed the manager. They said that if the news did not leak out, they will allow me to continue in the competition. But now that the news is made public, I'm not sure what will happen next."
Now this is where the gaps in both intelligience and emotional maturity becomes the most glaring. She wants the organisers' compassion yet she publicly tries to transfer the responsibility and blame them. How do you want them to help you, dear Ris? :dunno:
"Reporter: Do you regret entering the pageant now, since your past has been exposed?"
"Ris: No, how many people out there would continue to pursue their dreams, fully aware of their shortcomings, and not give up despite the pressure? If there are any regrets, then I only have myself to blame for doing those things in the past."
There's a difference between being Resilient and being Incorrigible.
"Reporter: Are you worried that this spate of bad publicity will affect your future?"
"Ris: Of course I'm worried about my career, but I'm not so concerned when it comes to relationships. I believe the man who loves me will be able to overlook my past, especially since I am truly remorseful."
Another demonstrated statement that is of self-interest in nature. Career is something personal and of course she's worried, when it comes to relationship (this also suggest relationship of other kinds) she's expecting others to accomodate her instead.
"Reporter: Do you have any thoughts about this whole matter?"
"Ris: Who does not have a past? Who has not committed wrongs? Actually, being sentenced to probation does not make it a criminal record, but it is made serious because it is a legal one. This incident has made me appreciate the love and support from my family members."
She's using the philosophy of 'Let the man who has no sin cast the first stone' in a manipulative way. The folks didn't cast the stone because the adulterer had repented and the teaching was that a penitent should be forgiven. Yet, in her statement it's a show of trying to hide a lighted candle under a bowl.
My apologies in advance if her sympathisers feel offended.
Let's hope the runner up takes her place.
