Ris Low: Guilty of credit card fraud

please give the pretty girl a chance this is an honest mistake.

You're right and I agree with you.
We need to give her a chance.
Just that, in all honesty, before we give her another chance, she has to give herself a chance to make good that honest mistake.
Like what Canonised and Zero o said - just bravely stand up and apologise sincerely, and I am sure she will be viewed in more favourable light. Really, this is my humble opinion.

But she's still being defiant about her crime, like that how?? :dunno:

That is why I am genuinely hoping some of her close ones - family or friends - can give her good advice now. Because if she makes the right move, she will certainly salvage at least some part of her reputation. This is not the time to be defiant lah... the way I see it.

Well, if not sure then better dont anyhow say lor. :)

Well, pardon me if I am not familiar with the terms and condition.
Maybe there is such a clause, maybe there isn't.
But I think it makes little difference now. Now that it is staring at her and at the whole nation in the face.
I think what is important is what she should do with her next step.
Don't you think so?

give her erm.... yet another chance la.

i wanna see BOOM BOOM BOOM in the international pageant!! ;p

I'm not sure if the public and media are as forgiving as you. Look at the case of Gillian Chung (victim in Edison Chen's incident). Didnt she apologize? But the reporters keep bringing up the incident wherever she goes.

I believe joining the competition is her biggest mistake. If she is just an ordinary girl next door, its a lot easier to face the music and move on.

Certainly agree here. She couldn't possibly imagine that it will turn out to be a nightmare like this when she first joined MSW.
Anyway, I am definitely not advocating that she be forgiven.
I am merely suggesting some damage control on her part here only lah...

Just read excerpts from the interview from Asiaone website - http://www.asiaone.com/News/AsiaOne+News/Singapore/Story/A1Story20090925-170018.html

my view .. some things she said sounded right, yet most came across as ill-prepared and some even defiant. The sympathetic ones will say give her a chance, the hardcore ones will do the opposite and i think judging by the excerpt of the interview, the ones sitting on the fence will more likely gravitate toward the unsympathetic view.

I dont think she did enough in that interview to convince Singapore. I think the organizers have their backs against the wall - and they would not fight for her to stay. I reckon its goodbye Miss Singapore crown .... next please.

With Ah Lian??? I think you probably can only do unarmed combat with yourself... :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

Master, thank you for imparting your unarmed combat skills to me.

You are second to none!

Everyone is free to interpret her press interview and this is how I see it.

"Reporter: Do you think you have disappointed Singaporeans?"

"Ris: Not really, but I am disappointed with myself. If I can do it again, I will not make the same mistake."

She's being oblivious to the fact that on the stash she's carrying, it spells "Singapore" and not putting into consideration to the sentiments and insult caused to the the folks. Just as sleaze in art and hobby is repulsive and repungent (like trying to sell porn as works of Leonardo Da Vinci) it is of a significant but degenerative insult. Instead of showing some maturity in admiting a deed and moving on, she's blaming on not having a chance to turn back time to undo it.

"Ris: Of course I am not willing. I don't want to give up my dreams. But if the organisers want me to, I will accede to their request. It would only be fair."

She's banking on the the compassion from some of the same folks who went all out to defend her when she blew up her interview on Razor. However, the half-hearted quest for compassion comes undone when the underlying self-interest over-rules her statement and stood louder.

"Ris: In the beginning, they did not know, but when I signed the contract, I informed the manager. They said that if the news did not leak out, they will allow me to continue in the competition. But now that the news is made public, I'm not sure what will happen next."

Now this is where the gaps in both intelligience and emotional maturity becomes the most glaring. She wants the organisers' compassion yet she publicly tries to transfer the responsibility and blame them. How do you want them to help you, dear Ris? :dunno:

"Reporter: Do you regret entering the pageant now, since your past has been exposed?"

"Ris: No, how many people out there would continue to pursue their dreams, fully aware of their shortcomings, and not give up despite the pressure? If there are any regrets, then I only have myself to blame for doing those things in the past."

There's a difference between being Resilient and being Incorrigible.

"Reporter: Are you worried that this spate of bad publicity will affect your future?"

"Ris: Of course I'm worried about my career, but I'm not so concerned when it comes to relationships. I believe the man who loves me will be able to overlook my past, especially since I am truly remorseful."

Another demonstrated statement that is of self-interest in nature. Career is something personal and of course she's worried, when it comes to relationship (this also suggest relationship of other kinds) she's expecting others to accomodate her instead.

"Reporter: Do you have any thoughts about this whole matter?"

"Ris: Who does not have a past? Who has not committed wrongs? Actually, being sentenced to probation does not make it a criminal record, but it is made serious because it is a legal one. This incident has made me appreciate the love and support from my family members."

She's using the philosophy of 'Let the man who has no sin cast the first stone' in a manipulative way. The folks didn't cast the stone because the adulterer had repented and the teaching was that a penitent should be forgiven. Yet, in her statement it's a show of trying to hide a lighted candle under a bowl.

My apologies in advance if her sympathisers feel offended.

Let's hope the runner up takes her place. :)

this article is retarded. just look at her response. i cannot see any repentance from her.it is disgusting. it is like us watching those soap opera and the character never admit they are wrong when it is so obvious.

what do u mean by make worse because it is legal? Hello? this is a disgrace.send Ho Ching for the competition also better.

i would love to see this video. Ris speaking in person... :bsmilie:

strictly speaking, Integrity is at stake for the individual and the nation. if it get blows up in the international level, then it will be a great embarrassment.

this organiser also very irresponsible. know she got a criminal record still let her participate.:thumbsd:

OMG, she is representing singapore! we mean the whole of singapore now, not individual.
so how could it be someone tat has a criminal offence representing us?
might as well go to women's prison and get a most beautiful prisoners to be a contestant next time.

look, is not that i've not sympathy with her or neither that i dont agree that we all made
mistake. but a miss singapore, a world pageant is definitely a different story we are talking about. :nono:

she has to come clean and is the BEST among the rest. :embrass:
