ridiculous replacement part cost

No way am I paying such inflated price for a simple procedure. The last time I know they 'tok' is when they told me they charge I think 150 or something to clean the CCD..

No that bad lah.... Last time I was at FSC, Mr Tan cleaned the sensor in my S5 Pro FOC.

Mine s5 rubber grip also peeling but I diy n glued it back. Anyway pls do write to fujifilm japan, I believe they take qc n customer service more serious then local. I remembered i was charged $150 for a calibration for a sigma lens which is still under international warranty. I wrote to Sigma Japan and the next day i got a reply to go back and to get a refund from Sigma Singapore. And i believe now Sigma does FOC lens calibration for all it's lenses. At least consumers like us are much more confident in third party lenses due to their good support.

I am totally disgusted with Fuji Singapore. Looks like I will have to DIY to stick back the rubber grip. No way am I paying such inflated price for a simple procedure. The last time I know they 'tok' is when they told me they charge I think 150 or something to clean the CCD. I believe anyone can do a decent job cleaning it for free, and I believe fuji technician are not even working in dust free environment.

That's it. I am not sticking with Fuji anymore (even if they do come out with a new DSLR, which I highly doubt).

I had a similar experience with a Toshiba laptop computer repair technician more than 10years ago at Kallang Pudding to replace some small cheap part for which they charged a ridiculous high price. I refuse to buy any Toshiba computer items from that day onward.

IMHO, it is unfair to judge them without them looking at the camera first.
There might really be some misunderstanding such as the 3 parts or 5 parts.

A more practical way is to cool down and go to Fuji directly for the repair job.
Highlight to the counter which parts your want to replace.
Once you get the actual quotation, and if you are still not satisfied with the quotation, call them and request a review.
Remember to try to be understanding and talk nicely. I believe they will be more than willing to reduce the price if it is feasible, even if they are to make a loss.
Then everybody, including you and your camera will be happy.

If you already sent the complain to Japan without them checking the camera first, then good luck. Due to the "possible misunderstanding", heads may rolls, service centre may closed, and no one left to service any more cameras.(Just joking)

BTW, just curious, who you spoken to? (Oh, am I also saboing people? )

FSC guy said the parts don't cost more than 50 bucks. It is the 3 parts. The bottom and usb ports is of no relevance cos those parts are not known to have this expanding issue unlike the rubber grip, the back and the side. Anyway even with those 2 factored in, those pieces of rubber couldn't have accounted for the 90 bucks jump in price, would it? :)

All I am not happy about is why are they overcharging on the labour side, considering Nikon change the same 3 parts for way less(and faster turn around mind you). The FSC said 4-5 days, NIkon the lady asked me, how urgent I need it. I asked if within 1 day possible, they said will try. Thumbs up to them.

And I have already clarified everything and the technician told me it is the company's policy and the price is set at that. I can not bargain, and he just told me to consider, and let him know if I decide to do it.
So, no, it's either you take it at that price or leave it. This "more than willing to reduce the price if it is feasible, even if they are to make a loss." is out of question.

FYI I made a call twice, just to talk and make sure the price is that for the whole procedure. And I have confirmed with Nikon by calling, that their price is as such.

I don't see the need to defend the FSC. They are clearly overcharging.
ps. I don't know the name of the gentleman behind the phone, but I presume he is the technician as he seems the only one to be able to answer me (the earlier guys just transfer to him). Anyway I don't blame him. It's his job. I am just not happy with FSC's company policy.

Why not just buy the rubber grip and glue it on yourself?

they told me they don't sell the parts separately when I asked them.

Does Nikon sell the parts seperately? If yes glue it yrself.. not that hard.. Actually you can use back the expanded rubber grip also.. just trim abit on the expanded side and stick back..;)

Someone at Nikon section also lamenting about labour cost at Nikon Service Centre.

Part cost $12.............Labour cost $120. Go Figure.

I guess we are at the mercy of these service centres. :)

can i know what glue do they use?
mine s5 rubber also came peeling out .. i just gaffer over it

Wah my d200 that I owned previously had this problem too! Luckily the guy I did a body swap with accepted the condition of the rubber. And then just the other day last week I sent in a 40D to change the LCD viewing window. There was no labour charge at all on Canon's part. They commented it was just a simple "take off old part and stick in new part" with no disassembly required hence no charge for labour. And my cam was ready for collection in less than an hour.

Looks like Fuji has a lot of work to do if it really is serious about staying on as a viable alternative.

actually they use 3m double sided tape. which type exactly i'm not sure.

haha reminds mi when i changed one of my lens ata CSC, the af chip faulty ... part cost $80 ... labour cost .... $180 !!!!
then another time my camera body the cf card slot got 1 pin bent .....say have to replace WHOLE BOARD ! ....about $300 ..... just because of 1 pin :o

My experience with Canon was good, many years back the shutter button of my cam was stucked, out of warranty, bring it in and said will update me on the cost. Few days later, call me to say it's been fixed and surprisingly, it's FOC. No matter how easy the job is, no labour charge is unexpected for me.

Too bad their compact digicam is nowhere near Fuji quality, else will go for it.

I got a reply, not from Fujifilm Japan but from Tan Eng Kiat from Fujifillm Singapore, who says he "received my email".

Anyway, I spoke with him on the phone and he said there was some miscommunication with ZeroDivine (which his colleague already communicated or was told to communicate with ZeroDivine) and the labour cost for changing the rubber is only $30.

So altogether, including parts, labour and GST for the garmen, it works out to $80+ which is okay lah, at least not outrageous.

Mr Tan adds that the change will take about 3 days (depending on what time you send in), because they need to order the part from the warehouse.

Overall, we had a pleasant and courteous conversation, none of the "take it or leave it attitude" although I suppose price is still fixed and not open to negotiations.

its one of the 3M highbond doubleside tapes. but the peeling usually is due to expansion so sticking wont really last long. usually the expansion is accelerated with sweaty palms

if its necessary just eBAY for the replacement parts and DIY. its a little challenging to remove the sticky rubber bits left if you rip the whole thing off but still ok

example :

To add-on... Changing shutter for a Fujifilm Dslrs like s2,S3 or perhaps s5 will cost you a bomb of $800++!!! Have tried to ask Fujifilm Singapore frontdesk onces before.

So when u buy a 2nd hand dslrs, you have to think carefully. :)

The Service centre and so tiny and place are dame remote.~ Argh... like some kinda industrial park.

Steven did warn me that if send to Fuji for repair, price would be high :(

Is TCW able to do it?
I have asked Steven @ TCH before, he can do it for $180, which is no better than Fuji's offer.

i did look up steven before and he quoted me $180 as well. Which, is EVEN higher than fuji.

Now that it's settled i am not not gonna fix the rubber issue yet. see how..

thanks richard for banging table :)

WAH! Time to bang Steven's table then!

I had always found him very reasonable, in fact sometimes "small things" he did for me for free. I used to go to another service person, but feel much more comfortable with Steven and have been "loyal" to him since then.

Hmmmm.... wonder how come he also like that. Is it another case of, like Fuji, also a "mis-communication"? This rubber thing is getting complicated.

BTW: ProteonEXR above posted a link, can buy the Nikon D200 rubber for only about US$25 plus postage. So no way any of us should pay $165 + GST or $180 or whatever. Thanks, too, ProteonEXR.
