I wonder will they come up with a medium format sensor and lens with this setup... kinda far fetched thinking but seems very possible.
Also wonder why do they want to sell sensor and lens together. They should've just separate the sensor and lens to take it to the next level in terms of being modular.

This design probably solves problem of dust during lens change hmm..

Given the pricing and the two modules, S90 + D5000 w/ 35F/1.8DX makes better sense to me.

ya..quite a weird combi...should have left the sensor in the camera body and just interchange the lens....

anyway...hehe...L lens wor...red ring on the lens unit :p

did they mention about the arrival of the camera?

During the press release, there are sample modules which may be released in future.

- Printer Unit
- Projector Unit
- Fiber Scope Unit
- Storage Unit
- GPS Unit
- Extension Unit

oh thanks... maybe i can change my gx100 to this one ...

I do feel like getting it as well but the price of body + zoom lens unit is already about 1.3k... and that is only using a 1/1.7" sensor...

Perhaps I may get the GX-200 if the price of GXR is too expensive. Anyway, the accessories (DW-6 and TC-1) can still be used on the zoom lens unit in future.

Don't agree with their approach.

Why place the lens with the sensor? Lenses never go outdated. Sensors do.

We'll see. :)

With their plan of releasing other module which are not related to lenses, perhaps doing so will keep the size compact. Ricoh also claims this approach will help to optimize the performance. It may be the key to the idea of extension unit too.

wow... this must be expensive!

nice!!!

Price in US$

• Body: $549
• VF-2 viewfinder: $257
• GF-1 flash: $280
• A12 50mm lens: $830
• S10 24-70mm lens: $440

too friggin' ex..

i foresee a high take-up rate.. but follow-up rate may be low, and resale rate may be high as well.

they could really help consumers save a lot of money by just making the lens interchangeable instead.. buying a sensor is damn ex.

the oly or pana interchangeables make more sense here.. can still use adaptor for use with some mighty old lenses.

I just don't understand the rationale behind this particular product.

Things that exist are justified.
It's another niche market product with unlimited growth potential, though I don't see how.
The idea is just.... well actually thought over by myself before. I just didn't see it coming to reality so early.
Interesting too see what is going to happen and good to have more options than just m4/3 for everyday camera.

Wow!!

Body: $549... Ok can accept
VF-2: $257... too ex to accept
GF-1 Flash: $280 quite ex for a small flash but still acceptable
A12 50mm Lens: $830 not worth it... better off buy Canon new 100F2.8L IS or even Tamron 180mm F3.5
S10-24-70mm Lens: $440 quite ex for such a small lens...

doesnt make sense to buy a lens which cost like a body right? understand that it has sensor in each lens, but well, doesnt make sense too...

I thought this is really invative, at first I thought it's just another system that allows to change lens but no, this is different. The other thing is the size and weight, just like compact. Has anyone seen the sample gallery, looks pretty good IMO. http://www.dpreview....12_preview/

I guess it would be priced around the price of Entry-level DSLR.

based on the pricing the GXR system is probably targeted more towards the dlux4 rather than the lx3 customer....

Actually the price tag of Sigma DP1 helps GXR to make a lot of sense. If you can take the trouble to visit the GXR's sample image gallery at dPreview, you will be really impressed by it.

GRX could be more attractive and makes more sense if it has a F1.8 pancake prime lens with APSC sensor in it.
