Did a very simplistic test for IR capability of the GX100.
Not much of a sunlight and all done in 2 mins.
As I do not have the proper fit for the filter I merely hold the filter with one hand and shoot with the other all handheld. WB was set easily but on the nearest tree.
ISO was set to 400, 1/8sec, F3.0.
Pic was able to be seen via the screen and can compose the scene without removing the filter. So i think the Ricoh GX-100 is IR capable and surely may be better than many other unmodified compacts.

Thanks Dennis for a preview. It seems there is a little hotspot? Do post a sample with lowest ISO when it gets more sunny ok if it is not too much of a trouble ok?

Thanks in advance!

Yes I notice that as well.
Seems like there is no sun yet but will do a more comprehensive test when I get the proper filter set. Now can only do one hand test. :dunno:
But it definitely can take IR pics but may need to adjust a little.

Dennis,

I did a test with the new Nikon Coolpix P5000 (unmodfied) too and found that it s quite good for IR. CWB setting was fast and straight forward and you can compose either by viewing the LCD (the images are visible as the camera automatically compensates) or through the camera's viewfinder.

Will try to post some pics when I get home from work tonight (our corporate Websense service blocks all photo and file sharing sites).

Cheers,
Matt

heh...looks promising :D

Thanks for helping to test out the IR capabilities of GX100, Dennis .. I am considering getting this camera and sell my s6500fd fuji. But was afraid it would be another camera with hotspots.

Looking forward to other samples when its more sunny.

Hi Dennis, any more samples of IR with GX100 in sunny weather?
TIA.

Hi Dennis,

Great photo! Where did you buy the Ricoh GX100? Was it in a shop in Singapore?
