Ricoh GRD III

Started this thread some time ago before I got my GR III. Now that I have and have been using it for about 1 week, I must say I am impressed with what this little critter can deliver. While it has replaced my 35 mm f1.8 DX lens, it certainly does not replace my Nikon D80 in difficult and demanding situations.

Wat this camera is is a perfect complement for my DSLR when one does not wish to carry a bulky DSLR for simple social events such as a party or dinner outing. The 28 mm f1.9 lens just shines in those indoor and poorly lit settings. Also because the appearance is so incognito, it allows me to shoot without drawing much attention and curious stares from strangers. I am just another commuter with a compact camera. PRICELESS!!

The macro mode is impressive with a f1.9 aperture, beautiful bokeh is easily achieved and makes shooting objects (eg. Food) very fun. Again, cos u are not using a DSLR with a dedicated macro lens, waiters and other diners wont think u are a wacko. Maybe I am just too self-conscious.

Features I think are Fantastic: Auto WB, Manual Controls Customisation, Manual Controls Buttons.

What I dont Like: Price..........but there is a price for convenience.

I have created a Blog to simply posts pictures of the GR III.

Because this camera is so easy to use and unobtrusive, I have decided to try my hand at street photography.

In the blog, you will also find B&W pictures taken.

Dont worry, there is no R(A) pics in the blog. :nono:

If you like what you see, do leave me a comment or two.

Great shots. you live in Macau? :) i'm a GRD1 user, am looking to get GRD3 when i have more spare cash.

Thank you HookonClassic and ThinkhardRichard.

Yes, I am working in Macau, hence a lot of pictures of the place.

Dont sell ur GRD 1 as the B/W is supposedly better than the GR III. But the GR III fast lens and LCD screen is SWEET!!

Ricoh GRX coming also

Can't decide bwtn LX3 or GRD3. Which takes better B&W pics?

They are 2 different type of cameras ya. I have both and I personally prefer the GR series!

Woah great. So why the preference for GRD3?
Heard the user interface is damn gd!

Ricoh GRDIII is very customisable. It has 3 custom shooting mode slots on the dial MY1-3 where you can setup your own presets, shooting mode ap priority-manual-shutter priority, color scheme(bw or color or vivid or sepia), af or mf , raw or jpeg.

Both are good cameras but I can see more details of grey in GR then LX. GR series are also well-known for its size and handling too. :)
