Just bought a Divipower batt for the GRIV at $25 from TCW early Nov. Shop say that it has a 1 year warranty on it.

has anyone noticed dust on the sensors of their GR?? I brought my in a couple of days ago it turned out that there were relatively large fragments of dust on the sensor. they will clean it out of goodwill for the first time. what baffles me is how the dust got in especially when there is a rubber seal around the sensor.

The suction effect when the lens extends every time you turn the camera on is the cause of the problem. If you want to reduce it, properly can use the GH-3 adaptor with the filter alway on like this. You will loose a bit of compactness but safer! :)

A Classic GR

Has anyone tried pairing the GH3 with a raynox?

The idea of having a compact apsc macro cam is very appealing.

Can try it this holiday but I don't expect much on this combination cause using raynox 250 on a 19mm lens might cause dark corner as well as the total magnification might not increase much (19 x 0.8 = 0.16 so it just a 0.16 : 1 only)!

I would keep it for a while more since the camera has already depreciated. It reminds me of when I bought a Fuji X100. Hated it at first…. wanted to sell it the moment i got it as it was slow blah blah blah… I gave it 6 months and grew to love it as I became more patient and took excellent pictures with it. As for the GR, I would not leave home without it. So compact with such outstanding picture quality. I bring it everywhere I go especially business trips where I can sneak in a shoot or two without a bag of gear.

Point taken, thanks for the input, much appreciated! :)

Ah so!

If still want to use in compact form then just turn it on in a clean plastic bag each time?

I think it might not that bad! But yes, if you want to be in safe side then that might be the solution for all cameras! :)

truth be told, i won't bother. its a rare occurrence, probably caused by faulty seals / sets. i've heard of 1, 2 rare cases where dust got into sealed GXR modules also - it happens very rarely. the set was sent in within warranty and warranty was honored without fuss.

Agreed! I had both GXR module 28/2.5 and 50/2.5 Macro which had the issue with dust inside the sensor! The 28/2.5 is at the edge so I don't bother but the 50/2.5 is right at the center and I have no other choice is to send it to APD for cleaning! :(

As I mentioned, all cameras with lens extend and retract will have chance for dust to get in so don't need to be so seriously. I personally don't protect as well!

Ok. This is my quick test on the resolution and magnification of GR with my Raynox M-250.

First is the size of the setup:

GR + Raynox M250

This is the magnification of the GR at its closest focus distance (working distance is about 10cm in front of the glass)

GR Closest focus distance

GR with the Raynox M-250: working distance now is reduced to about 3-4cm in front of the glass

GR Closest focus distance with Raynox M-250

For your reference this is the maximum 1:2 macro shot of GXR A12 50/2.5 Module:

GXR A12 50/2.5 Macro Module - Macro 1:2 shot

So the good thing is that the corner is not dark when using the Raynox 250 with GR and we could bring down the original magnification for GR from about 1:3.1 to about 1:2.5 or so. Also, the resolution as well as sharpness seem to be very good as well.

Hope it helps.
