didnt buy - it was with the package that i bought
think they have the GR protector there already
The GR uses the same batteries as the GR4, which is the Ricoh DB-65 series.
I personally have bought some third party batteries from SLRR for about $20 per piece. Works fine with no probs so far.

So here I have the GR with me fresh from our local drug store at Sim Lim Square Last night....
This preliminary review is based on my experience and stable to unknowingly redundant formats of the D800, 6D, Sigma Dp2
The unboxing - not much feeling - hahah
The very efficient Pharmacist at Sim Lim Square pop it up within seconds, helps me with a LCD protector, drop the Batteries in, a wrist strap, setup the date and time all under 2 mins - if it was any faster, they would be in F1 pit crew uniform.
The GR in the hand -
1) its very light, the textures are slightly on the rough side to some grip, feel nice on the hand, but with such a light weight, I don't think you need much grip style design.
2) the on/off button sits slightly recessed into the body - Excellent to prevent accidental switched ons - I had this happening to me from time to time on the Sigma DP2m
3) the lens extends out of the body when the camera is in operation.
4) Argh !! I want filter!! Although its slightly recessed, it looks like a dust trap on closer inspection
Operations -
1) Af is slow against the OMD and say a 12mm f/2 lens, formerly my favourite combo so I am anticipating more snap mode shooting
2) Write speed is quick , does not take 18seconds to write and formatting of a card seems all right - Try doing it with the Sigma Dp2m haahhaaha (please dont)
3) Loads of customization in the menu from where I can see
Others -
1) charging is done internally via the camera , plug to a power source, connect cable to camera not acceptable for me,
2) luckily drug store people sold me a 3rd party charger - Issue solved
3) No issue finding for 3rd party batteries , got an extra one
4) Again, w/o the UV filter I have some doubts on how I can protect the lens element and its insides when the camera is inside my pocket - No, this isn't skinny jeans (how can any guys even walk in those - with due respect to the ladies here) I'm talking about Shorts / Bermudas / Pants with realistic fitting pockets, a think tank Stuff It pouch seems to hold the camera and spare battery.
Accessories -
1) Perhaps adding a 28mm viewfinder would make it wonderful in snap mode - will explore this this evening hopefully with a loan copy
2) NO RRS L PLATE - WHY WHY WHY !!! did they not consider the potential for portrait landscape shooters ? hhahahaha
3) there is a UWA that converts this to a 21mm kit, this could perhaps be explored sometime in the future.
Ok I admit, this is one of my more serious PNS - so high expectations !!

Saw the viewfinder. For the price it probably is made out of plastic, including the viewfinder itself.
i would be keen to know how you compare the IQ with the Sigma DP2M. looking forward to your input. meanwhile enjoy your brand new toy!
I have the DP2M too, and first, non-comparable. GR is 28mm, and DP2M is 50mm.
The sigma rewards the patient shooter, and by patient, I mean Mother Theresa's levels of patience - that camera is a total ass in handling. It's slow in EVERYTHING. And don't try shooting above ISO400. Serious.
Good thing is these two cameras share the same batteries - the Sigma munches batteries for breakfast and feels hungry throughout the whole day. Less than 100 shots per batt.
However when the Sigma gets it right - usually daylight, non moving shots - the details and sharpness is incredible. Foveon sensor for details are amazing.
Ricoh is a dream to handle, and the IQ is not far from the DP2M if you don't look too closely. It is definitely more pocket friendly than the Sigma too (hint: no way you can cram the sigma in your pocket).
If you have to choose, go for the GR. Am in reservist now, once back will post some samples from both cameras for you to check it out.

i realize the difference in focal lengths, just that neoro mentioned he has the DP2M.
i own both the DP1M and DP2M, and frankly quite happy with their IQ (ignoring their quirks). however the GR looks like an interesting cam, moreso since i owned the GXR twice before.
i may just sell away my DP1M and grab the GR.

Think it's a good call - the GR is a much more productive camera in terms of usable shots for general photography. The Sigmas are useful for stills or landscapes.
Neoro, is there a reason why you bought the 3rd party charger? Tried charging the Ricoh batt with the Sigma dp2m charger and it seems to work fine?
Regardless, would be fun to see your post with samples from both cams later on. Thanks in advance!

Secondly, since you have the DP2M, you needn't buy a third party charger to charge your Ricoh battery. The DP2M and Ricoh GR use the same battery and the DP2M already came with an external charger which can be used to charge your Ricoh battery as well.
I am looking forward to it this weekend when I take both the DP2m and the GR out for a spin.
Yes its not comparable in terms of focal length, however with a pan head and some stitching, hopefully I can get something closer for comparison.

When I got the DP2m , I thought it was going to be just another PNS however the more I shoot with it, the more impressed I got from its output. Of course within the well context of the Sigma's limitations, this is purely landscape on a tripod , with some filters occasionally to help but still limited to the 30sec exposure.
I was waiting out for a bargain to drop by at the BNS for the DP1m, however the GR gave me an alternate option for the wide end and increase my shooting opportunities to street and other general shots!
So hopefully in the bag - DP2m for Landscape and Foodie shots, GR for the General shots and also Wide Landscape.
Not to mention this 2 combo are leaf shutter - crazy syncing under the hotsun with flashes !!
I prefer to charge my batteries once when I return and especially on trips for all my cameras at the end of the day when I'm back to the hotel.
So 1 camera , 1 Charger

So I had some chance to examine the camera more,
Just noticed the tripod socket for the camera isn't exactly centre to the lens - Possibly its balancing against the weight of the battery?
Got an input from a friend that non dedicated camera plates might have some issues, as mounting the camera plate will block the cover to access the battery and SD card entirely.

ISO 1600 bro, but actually I added grain to achieve film-look, the raw file at ISO 1600 almost no grain actually
