Ricoh GR

Thanks or sharing guys.
Have not paid much attention to this camera previously although I did check out the reviews. The APS C sensor and Pentax-originated optics certainly is a plus point. The photos you have shared are great too.

I wished they had put it in a nice body though. The Ricoh-type case looks dated. It would not stand out on a display case in the shop. These days, a nice modern look would be a good deviation from all those "retro" types and will not cannibalise the MX target market too.But of course, its my own preference. I know you guys love your camera the way it is ! :)

Leaving out a dedicated button for HD recording it a minus though since almost all good cameras has it.

Regards

This is what makes the Ricoh such a great street camera - unassuming looks and top notch build quality. Want a loud modern look camera? Go look in the compact cameras section in Courts.

A lot of cheapo compacts have a dedicated movie record button too. Are they good cameras? No. Are they good video cams? No again. The GR is a photog's tool first and foremost, and you just need to read the countless threads on the NEX forums about people accidentally pressing the movie record mode instead of the shutter.

Melaka river. 4mins exposure, straight out from camera, film effect.

stock will be in likely early july. Red ring is not for sale item. will announce how and where to get it. but before hand, get your GR before the red ring !

thanks very much! :) cant wait for this. i loved the GR4 but was lamented the sensor size.. seems there is no escape from Ricoh! *drama... cant wait to join u guys!

Saw on eBay that the rings were sold for GRD IV..

Hopefully they will start selling for the GR too..

Now I bring my GR along wherever I go..
It's not super compact but it resides in my berms pocket comfortably..

And my Fuji camera has been sitting in my dry cabi for the past 3 weeks..

Fujifilm XPro 1 and XE 1 are mirrorless and X mount does have lovely XR 18mm f2 Pancake lens. Both good camera and compact too depend
their owner pocket how deep :)

Really digging the in-camera high-contrast B&W... so much so that I have set MY1/2 as such:

MY1:
MAX setting
Contrast: 6
Vignetting: Strong

MY2:
-1 setting
Vignetting: Weak

RAW+ of course, so I still have the colour output if I want them too... :)

For the X series camera.. My favorite will be the 35mm f1.4 lens..

But when I wanna go light and "bagless".. No contest man.. Fuji sits in the dry cabi..

Ya agree I was shock to recently see the Fuji XE1 shots, high pop out effect. Is the 35mm f1.4 35mm @equivalent 35mm?

Its 52.5mm effective focal length on d X bodies due to aspc crop sensor. D pop is quite poisonous on d XF35/1.4 lens.

agreed! the 35/1.4 was amazing! i love the bokeh and the colors... the only reason i sold it was because it wasn't a rangefinder.. but still.. good.. excuse to buy the GR :) i need a small, fun camera that can always be with me when it isnt so convenient to take out the rangefinder (i dont mean any dodgy shots lar)

Hey Bernard,
Very nice ! The contrast and sharpness is unmatched for night shot. And th dynamic range is not too bad considering you managed to capture the constellation Crux (also know as the Southern Cross) and Beta Centauri in the picture too. :)

I don't know anything about astrology. But great to know that. ;-)

Ann, we don't need any reasons to buy really .. ;-) as long as we want it. If you need to try the camera, let me know ... I can always pop by ... ;-)
