Ricoh GR Digital users fall in!

Hi guys,

I am selling a Ricoh GRD (complete basic package -WITHOUT the wide lens, adaptor or external viewfinder - WITH box and camera pouch), bought in April 2006. Asking for $800 or closest to it. Let me know if anyone is keen. Thanks!

personally i myself find AF of the GRD pretty noisy. my lumix FZ1 and lumix LC1 (sold) are dead silent.

i realised my friend's canon ixus 60 can be kinda noisy too.

cool.. thanks lim8395.. thought it was jus my set.. still trying to get used to shooting w the GR-D.. maybe we all should organise a GR-D outing man.. anyway.. would look like any normal walkabout.. the GR-D itself is too discreet ;)

yeah.. bought it off a cser here.. maybe its jus me.. but i feel the GR-D is even more well built then the GR1V.. but both has its weaknesses.. GR-D being the LCD n GR1V being the film cover.. anyway, both have something they need to improve on and thats the noisy AF.. still playing ard with the cam.. let's wait till i have something decent :P

hw do u find the cam lim8395?

I was actually almost set on getting the lumix LX1 untill i got to play ard with it at march IT fair. And the veri 1st thing i fell in love with:

1. Handling! The moment i held it was like, WOW, so nice to grip the camera!

2. Look: Very analog camera like (i like these kind of cams, just like the Lumix LC1). Some thought it's a lomo Lc-A. and my gal friends even went gaga over the GRD.

3. Shutter lag: Very FAST. almost instantaneous.

4. SUPERB Macro! No manufacturer comes close to the 1cm macro offered by ricoh. GRD is 1.5cm. Paper think macro with aperture of f2.4.

5. Full manual control. Finally, a compact cam which can have 3min long shutter! a pity no bulb mode. Interestingly the manual focus is great to control with the Zoom button.

6. Cool accesories. 21mm wide angle is fun (but i must admit recently i seldom use it cos i wana keep my cam compact and bring ard). Super big, bright optical finder!

7. Great tat there are function enhancing f/w. ( but just wished more can be done)

wat i dun like.

1. if only aperture can go f1.4 .....and a bigger sensor

2. have a telephoto attachment, say 85mm.

3. macro af sometimes doesn't focus properly

4. and yes, noisy AF

5. slow raw write times

6. auto iso goes to iso 154 only ( maybe shd have a feature where u can set the limit of the auto iso)

7. no flash compensation feature ( if flash can bounce like lumix LC1, even better)

how much did u pay for the optical viewfinder? was contemplating getting one.. but wanna keep the GRD compact and discreet.. i think having the viewfinder also makes storage a problem? are u using the original leather pouch?

however, having a viewfiner, especially one with framelines allows the cam to work as how a rangefiner works.. can see outside the frame and within the frame itself..

Anyway, totally satisfied with the cam..goes out with me daily :) let's meet up to talk abt our new gfs over coffee man :P

Ricoh GRD f/w 2.10 officially out in Ricoh Japan Website

http://www.ricoh.co.jp/dc/download/grd/wingrd.html

The function-enhancing firmware can be downloaded free of charge from the Ricoh website. The following features can be added to the GR DIGITAL by installing this firmware.

(1) Optional functions can be set for the Exposure Compensation and White Balance selections that were applied as fixed items on the ADJ. dial.
(Before, the optional functions could be applied to two selections; but with the function enhancements, all four selections that can be made with the ADJ. dial can be set optionally.)

(2) If settings are changed with the ADJ. dial, the setting can be selected by the zoom button.
(Only when digital zoom function is turned off.)

Personal Opinion: Finally i can assign my 4 fav settings in the adj button! :D Namely ISO, WB, FOCUS and Metering. And it's nt like the previous f/w where one of the setting is fixed to ev compensation. Anyway, the ev compensation is already adjustable on the zoom rocker.

thnx man...wonder when the english version gonna come out??...

the one u download at ricoh jap site comes with english instructions.

below is an extract fr the ricoh eng site as to wat to prepare.
http://www.ricoh.com/r_dc/download/firmware/grd/procedure_win.html

2. Preparations
In order to complete this firmware update, you will need:

1. The GR DIGITAL camera (set the [ORIGINAL] mode in the USB connection, not the [MASS STR] mode.)
2. The AC-4c AC adapter or fully charged batteries
3. An SD memory card to store the files on (this update cannot be performed using the camera's internal memory)
4. A USB cable to connect between the GR DIGITAL and a computer.
5. A computer that has a USB port. And the Caplio software for the GR DIGITAL installed in the computer.

After these preparations are complete, you are ready to update your camera's firmware.
3. Update procedure
1. Exit RICOH Gate L, then connect the camera to the computer via the USB cable.
2. Click on the FirmUpdate.exe file, then follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.
