Ricoh GR Digital users fall in!

I beg to differ. The LX1 is of full metal construction and is in fact rather solidly built. Granted the GR Digital would probably stand up better with its magnesium alloy body and rubber coverings, but the LX1 shouldn't be considered a shabby second.

Noise is also a problem with the LX1. My comparisons are not based on any post processing with noise reduction s/w. I do agree that the GR Digi has a slight filmlike quality to its grain/noise but imo, it's pretty horrendous at iso 800 and above. For an almost 20% difference in price, I would go for the LX1 over the GR.

Actually both are good cameras la... just that GRD's pricing is a bit too ex liao
Only thing i find lacking on the GRD is the absence of an IS function. But the 21mm wide angle is sweeeeettt

Noise wise, I think it can't come close to GRD out of the camera. I am rather surprised if you imply that the LX-1 is better in this department where this camera is known for this shortcoming.

Agreed, LX-1 is totally unusable out of the camera from ISO400 onwards (maybe thats why they put the OIS instead).

For that kinda price, I think you can go the extra mile with the $999 Pentax dSLR. Of couse the downside is the size....

I very sua gu loh... I dun know abt this camera till i read this thread from early this mth. So i saw the camera at the I.T show & took the bourche home to read wat is the fuss abt this dated looking camera from this over the hill brand, sorry, no offend to anybody.

After reading abt this camera, straight away it comes to my mind tat it probably rivals Panasonic Lumix LX-1. This camera is expensive... I'll choose the Panasonic LX-1 one over this Ricoh GR-D anytime...

Dude.. on paper LX-1 looks impressive. But try both cameras out in the field, soon u will realize GR-D's friendly interface and solid build + excellent colors will beat the LX-1 hands-down.

interesting ..so far did any tested out side by side both cameras outfield?

bought my ricoh gr digital in jan this year. for those contemplating on getting one, the bundle offered at the IT show is a steal!!
good thing about the gr digital is that most external flashes can be used on its hotshoe. it's built-in flash really cannot make it man!

lately i have been viewing photos (from the Net) taken by the gr digital's predecessors i.e GR-1v, GR-1s, GR 10. mighty impressive - fantastic colours and sharpeness.

I'm only attracted to the ability to shoot at 21mm.
How good is the 21mm conversion?

Will be interested if there is a GR 21 Digitial.

Was at the booth yesterday to try out with my own sd card then bring it back home to test it out on my imac G5. at iso 1600 the noise level is terrible. i personally don't think it can make it, taking it as a compact, may be ok. At 800, things can still work out thou noise is also an issue. Looking back at LX1 which i tried out the day before. the LX1 is as noisy as the Ricoh at iso 400 but it has OIS......

Really don't know what to buy. Is there any wide angle adapter for LX1 just like the Ricoh?
The next thing that pops out is Canon S80 it also have wide angle adapter and works from 28mm as in 35mm format. Anyone any comments?

Then u should go for the LX1. Cheaper and u have zoom lens!

Unfortunately the LX1 does not have a wide angle adaptor. Feature wise, LX1 wins hands down. Its a value for money camera. If you are going for the user experience, I believe the GR is also a beauty. Its just damn too pricey for this camera. I guess that's the only gripe I have. Noise wise, its no where close to DSLR level but its slighly better than most compacts.

Wah... so expensive...

GRD is indeed expensive. i wouldn't have bought it if they didn't throw in the viewfinder, lens adaptor and hood, 21mm wide angle, original neck strap and case, 2 x 512mb SD card and 3yr warranty
