So how do Singaporeans celebrate this?
CNY reunion dinner
• eat in on actual day - home cook - this is default, as hotel/restaurant cooked dinner (no matter how "atas" or expensive) cannot match cooking by matriarch of the family
• eat out on actual day - prebooked reunion dinner at restaurant or special hotel CNY buffet or food court tze char stall. Expect over-priced hastily cooked un-delicious meals and poor service by untrained temporary waiters/waitresses.
• eat out before actual day - prebooked reunion dinner at restaurant or special hotel CNY buffet or food court tze char stall, to avoid the crowds
• eat out after actual day - prebooked reunion dinner at restaurant or special hotel CNY buffet or food court tze char stall to avoid the crowds
• forget about it, treat as any other day
• family go on tour overseas and have reunion dinner in another country
• oneself go on tour and skip reunion dinner
• family book a cruise and have reunion dinner on board the cruise ship
Wonder if fast food restaurants like McDonald's have tried to advertise - to ask customers to have their reunion dinner there.
Actually it does not need to be expensive, it is the family or people you have the reunion dinner with, that counts. So it can even be a McDonald's meal - one should have no issues with that.
