Anyone have done the above before? Say changing from a .72 to a .85 or .58 finder.

Where and how much

0.72 to 0.9 can be achieve with a 1.25X viewfinder magnifier

0.72 to 1.0 can be achieve with a 1.40X viewfinder magnifier

Just plug and play.

To go wider, it's best to get an external viewfinder. Much cheaper anyway.

To physically convert the viewfinder, not many can do as parts have to be ordered. Schimdt can probably send it in to Leica Germany for you if you can spare the time and money.

Cheers,

Heard there is a TianAnMen or Great Wall version thats more affordable is it true?

Yup. You can find it easily on ebay. Alternatively, www.japanexposures.com have Japanese ones as well. I got my 1.3X magnifier for my Zeiss Ikon there.

Cheers,

I have heard that in the US, DAG [http://www.dagcamera.com/] and Sherry Krauter (sp?) [http://www.sherrykrauter.com/] does good work. Otherwise you might want to contact Dr Joseph Yao [joseph@yao.com] from Hong Kong that knows of good Leica technicians in the territory.

No idea of price, but would be probably and expensive affair since they would have to find another viewfinder/rangfinder assembly for surgery.

My opinion is that 0.72X is probably the best overall manification, where you still have a good view of the 35mm frame. Unless you are using high speed lens >= 50mm, a 0.85x might be useful.

Although I have found a liking for the 0.60x viewfinder of a Hexar.

If you can afford it, buying a second body with a different magnification might be a better choice, 2 film types, 2 lenses etc.

Just my thoughts.

there are also x0.85 magnifiers to reduce the view... but it is a focal length that you use very often, i think that it would make sense to get the appropriate VF, rather than rely on the magnifier piece.

unless you have a certain affection for the current body that you have that this is the one and only body for you, i don't think that it is worthwhile sending to modifying.

Ok. Sounds like it is not a very economical viable option. Heh. Thanks for the inputs

Anyway, I was just being a little itchy backside. :P

The most expensive part of the M system,I had heard in HK that to replace the RF system of the xpan cost more than HK 6000,and adjusting the RF is a very very difficult task.I had bought a Konica hexxar RF in HK before, the alightment was out, sent back 3 time to readjust still cannot, the technician told me that Leica one even more difficult to adjust.
