Hi!

I am starting my own a-pic-a-day project for the year 2008. I actually wasn't aware that there's a forum here dedicated to this, and hence had already set up a blog and a flickr group for this purpose. But now that I know, I shall post the pictures here too! :)

I will be posting up one picture a day, but not daily - depending on schedule, I might say, post 3 photos taken over the past 3 days at one go. Part of the reason is also cos I'll also be shooting film in conjunction with digital, and it's not always possible to post a film shot on the same day!

Here's the first one on the first day of 2008....

Day 01/01/2008

Playing cards in the first hour of the first day of 2008 - you can see there's no countdown frenzy here- everyone was more interested in 1) playing Winning 11 on the PSP (most of the guys) or 2) "chua dai di" (local card game variant) for the rest of us.

Tim (bottom right) had just proposed to Ling Na (extreme left) in a wonderful setting created and planned by my darling girlfriend Michelle (right, holding cards in left hand). Everyone was in a jubilant mood! See more pictures of Tim's proposal here.

Day 02/01/2008

Basking in the warmth of early morning sunlight, a Christian cross hangs over Taoist idols on a simple altar, both faith seeking to illuminate and bring light to their followers.

I love this picture cos of the illumination of the sunlight on the iron grills and on the religious symbols -symbols representing faiths and beliefs that are supposed to bring light to their followers. The contrast of the cross and the pagan idols tells us this is a family with differing faiths within its members.

A lot of my work has to do with religion - as a born again Christian, I got better at photography while serving in the photography ministry of my church, and as I got more serious in photography, I began to photograph several personal projects, many of them with religious themes - on Islam (esp after Sep 11 2001), Taoism and other religious festivals.

The moment i saw this picture, I knew it would be my photo of the day.
