Recompose diehard supporter - Own up pls

how about when being creative with wide angle lenses, and the focus point is near the sides? i know some who prefer using centre AF with compensation, while some just select the focus points at the side

That's why I love the 45AF points on the 1D  it almost cover the entire viewfinder

I use spot metering for about 30% of my shots. So I do recompose a lot.

was out shooting the CNY River Ang Pow, than a couple asked me to shoot for them using their camera. but, that dam thing kept firing without me pressing the shutter button & ontop of that, i havent even compose the shot yet. than the couple told me it has "smile detection". :bsmilie::bsmilie:

but really, how do u guys shoot with this type of camera? the moment it point at the couple it starts to shoot automatically.:dunno::dunno:

I always recompose regardless of whether I shoot at f1.2 or f32

Point and shoot mah!

You point, and the camera shoots!

Ready or not.

Tell them to show you a black face first? :bsmilie:

For portraits (on lenses below f/2.8), I'll choose focus points. For landscapes when I need to focus on a spot to get maximum depth, I'll choose focus points. For other shoots, I don't really bother. :)

I turn off smile detection, take the photo, return to the owners and don’t tell them :P

Spot Metering linked to AF Point –*One of the features I love most from the 1D (and 7D?)

One more option: Shoot with center AF and leave enough around the side. Crop afterwards. With today's high MP cameras, you can crop the photo to your heart desire and still have decent MP left for a A4 print which the largest most of us will ever print anyway.

But I notice when I recompose and check that red marker in view finder where you can check where you focus, it's still at the center?

Wouldn't that be the expected behaviour? The focus is locked on the centre sensor and it wouldn't know where you were pointing the camera afterwards...

Use AE Lock. Lock the exposure and compose for the selected AF. Once AF locked, you will see both AE lock and AF lock appear in View finder, thats when you click your shutter.

Hmmm I shoot very frequently with fast lenses so I don't recompose after focusing. It's a good habit :D Anyway the 1D3 has sufficient AF points and selecting them is pretty quick using the joystick..

But it is painfull for 1Dmk2, still required the 2 wheels to reach the AF i wanted.

how about using 3D tracking ?i usually centre focus and recompose cos my cam will track it

I do recompose ALL é time. If its a little oof then I employ é help of CS4.
Unless I'm doing macro spider hunting, then is manual focus.

You forget to mention tat time what the couple told you? "Oh, we got the smile detection turn on. Nevermind, we can don't smile first and let you compose. Once done just ask us to smile for u"

LoL

I’ll be shocked if they even know what is photo composition.

Not being prejudice. Just an observation about that market segment.
