Thank you for the info but the thing is . It is troublesome on buying there because you have to go again to jb to collest your cam

That's true, depends if you feel the discount is worth the hassle but then again, the chances that you have to service it within the warranty period is quite low.

How much did you pay for it?
Did you try berlian foto?

RM2900. Pass by Berlian a young chap quoted me 3k. Cant be bothered to bargain so bot from Mee Too. Plus pt Mee Too give gd FX 2.395 so I saved a bit on FX as well.

I second that. Thats the law of electronics. Anyway if still have Msia warranty at least worst case scenario u bring back service only. Plus u got immediate savings regardless cam got issue or not.

Any purchase which is $400 or more when converted is liable for 7% gst when you bring it back to sg

Theoritically is correct. But if is less than 24 hrs the amt is $80 not $400. I learnt it from the customs officer when I bot a clock last time and kenna stopped...

Well cant have the best of both worlds. If SG got cheap and gd I think we wont have this thread to begin with...

So far how many sets are faulty within the first yr.. I doubt so...

If there is a need to send for repair take it as a chance to bring ur family for a seafood dinner at jb plus shopping lor

Pls note that Nikon service centres are located in Petaling Jaya, KL city and Penang. NONE in JB. So ur nearest seafood dinner will be KL..

Yup, if it's just a minor problem, u may consider getting it repaired at Singapore Nikon workshops if the cost is low and not worth the trip up and down from KL.

Like it was mentioned, the shops in JB which you bought from can send the set to KL for you.

So seafood can still eat in JB :bsmilie:

I see...but I remain skeptical about whether they will really bring it down to Nikon KL. Unless there is a reliable courier service, otherwise it is really a big hassle for the shop. If it's a grey set, chances the shop may just get it repaired by repair shops or perhaps amateur technicians.

Question is, how much u trust the shop to do that...

Well if still warranty u have to bring to shop and they will send on behalf.. If u don't trust them u can send on ur own to kl...

If no more warranty then can repair in Singapore lor..

You're right...but I guess the chances of breaking down during 1st year is pretty remote...for $400 savings I am willing to bite the bullet...but really depends on individual's risk appetite.

That's true but $400 can be a new SB-700 or a good tripod or a 2nd hand 17-50/28-75. But like you say, it's how one person perceive the savings and risk

For those who are worry abt wty issue, you may wish to buy it locally.

I would have buy mine in JB, if i had known earlier.... :)

Just to sidetrack a bit. I had a bad experience trying to buy a x100 from a reputable electronics chain store in Bangkok a while back. They tried to pass off a used/returned set as new, obvious signs are resealed box, hairline scratches on body and shutter count of 200+

What I am trying to drive at - as tourists, some unethical shops see that we are vulnerable and often gullible, and may try to take advantage of this where possible. So take extra care when inspecting your purchase
