Recommendations lens ideal for low light, club settings?

Been thinking of getting the 17-40 f/4 USM L lens... but all of u guys are suggesting f/1.2 , f/1.4 and f/2.8 lens... hmmm... tried the 17-40 in new asia 2 weeks ago. pretty sweet. like the wide angle so easier to take group pictures without stepping too far back plus losing too much distance and flash light

ouh yeah. plus the fact that if ure going to be in this line for quite some time, sooner or later some drunken dudes are gonna spill some drinks on u while posing (lol) but ud thank ur lucky stars that the 17-40L is weather sealed lol. no but seriously, id take a wide zoom anyway over a fixed prime for club / low light events where crowd is going to be a factor.:D

thats when image IQ is priority but the 17-40 is a nice glass as well (should you upgrade to FF in the future), coupled with a flash you wouldnt go wrong :)

thing with a flash on a dslr is that unless you are an official photographer of an event, people will just get annoyed. Especially in a club. Have you seen anyone with dslrs blasting away with a flash? Bouncer will prolly throw you out .

With a 1.4 lens at iso 3200 or 6400, you can take photos anytime you want (maybe practice manual focus too )

he's the official photog. lol

i think sticking to your flash is a much better idea, honestly... club lighting can be unpredictable with all the different colours. i do a lot of low light stuff with a 1.4 and trust me.... very hard to get the correct settings in pitch black with constantly changing colours
