a d200 body is not too ex, compared to the S&S stuff u already have. Housing prices for D200 and D2x won't be much of a diff....

besides, D200 is cheaper to replace for flooding :)

I agree the D200 is cheaper to replace but im not sure if the quality of the shots is as good as the D2X. I personally hv not tried the D200...

The housing for the D2X is much more ex than the D200... hence the dehlimma... unless Mr Song can get me one at a very good price ;)

Sry Ryanlwc for hijacking your thread. Heres my 2 cents worth. Get a P&S first in view that its a whole different ball game photographing underwater. get one that you can have manual adjustments or one dedicated with underwater setting... you might not like it... if you really wanna be good at it, you probably need to budget for alot of other accessories to make your shot more beautiful. Alternatively, if you know you are in for the long run, start straight off with DSLR set up but a good reliable 2nd hand set will still cost an arm and a leg compared to P&S... but if you loads of cash, then ignore the comment... just go for the D2X set up coz all the pros use it. and even if you cant take good pics with it, you will look good on you, hence will get the gals too (kidding)

Best is to dive with a group of photographers so that they can share tips and cut your learning curve. Eric Leong is a good teacher and M Song aka photosmart got a lot of kangtao for equipment so good luck with your hunt... :) You can see them festering in this website...

Good luck with your search:thumbsup:

s&S D2x and S&S d200 a lot of diif? my bad then. Ikelite housings all seem like same price.

finally have someone agree with me what u/w photography is all about

Great Minds Think Alike! ;)

BTW, S&S does not make for D2X. Nexus D2X housing cost abt 3700USD and S&S D200 housing abt 2400 USD... unless Mr M Song can get cheaper...

Thanks for all the comments made by you guys here ! I am just a poor student, i don't think i can afford the DSLR setup..so actually looking at a PnS. Was considering either Canon g7 or Panasonic Tz3. But whenever i go diving i see a lot of guys carrying Olympus camera. Any reasons why ?

Suggest ya start ya own thread unless da TS dun mind.

Ya have seen the pictures it produces and da cost. Wat do ya think?

For under $50 underwater setup, darn cheap to start. I doubt ya will understand why da guys above can be turn on by $4000 and above setup.

Buy da camera and try U/W and ya will understand the limitations & requirement of da environment and yours. Good luck.

My fav U/W foto shop.

haha ... yup ... i dun really know how bad it will turn out ... was hoping that u all the experts could enlighten me haha ... coz it looks interesting. but anyway, i'm intending to buy the oly 770 in the upcoming PC Show. I'm just wondering whether anyone of u all have heard about any new, better UW cams which are coming out soon? coz i really don't like the fact the video mode for oly 770 is without in-video zoom. coz i'm quite into videos too. thanks bros! & sis hahaha ...

i would go with the Canon Powershot series, with a personal leaning towards the A710 IS.....There is now a firmware on getting RAW on the powershot series....

so u have :
6X optical zoom for land
aa batteries
cheap SD cards
outstanding battery life
640 X 480 vga
RAW!!!!!!
cheap Canon housing

now u just have to figure out how to attach the inon lens to the canon housing. Maybe someone has manufactured an adaptor.....

i may just be able to squeeze in an inon strobe, one macro lens, lens adaptor, camera, housing, extra batteries, fast charger, extra SD cards for under SGD 2K!

Canon Singapore, if u hear me, provide me a set and i'll test drive for u!
