Hi all,

Will be making a trip to phillipines end of dec for a 5 day trip.Any recommendations on where to dive? thanks in advance

Please check this link.

as these locations are far from each other, where do you plan to spend your vacation? the closest to Manila is Anilao and Mindoro.

which part of philippines? now is the tail-end of typhoon season so weather might still be a hit or miss affair in terms of diving.

Thanks for the response so far. the trip is actually for diving. so i would'nt mind taking a domestic flight to another part of phillipines for a good dive and nice beach. preferable stuff to see would be a good mix of both pelagics and colourful reef life. Thanks in advance

You might want to check your option to take a direct flight to Palawan unless you really want to visit the capital - Manila. Then from Manila you take a domestic flight to Palawan. But as suggested earlier, Anilao and Mindoro are good places for diving too. And watersports like jetskiing and windsurfing! :)

Anilao and Malapascua will be good choices.

Anilao is easily reached from Manila, a 2-3 hour drive depending on traffic. There's a wide variety of resorts available and a good mix of dive sites ranging from macro to colourful reefs and offshore islands/reef diving. Not known for pelagics though they've been known to cruise by from time to time.

Malapasuca involves more travelling. Flight into Cebu followed by a 3-4 hour drive and a 1 hour boat transfer. More basic resorts on the island. Sightings of Thresher sharks make the place pretty famous. Mantas are a regular visitor to the dive site Monad Shoal. Kemod Shoal is known to have sightings of hammerheads from time to time. Around Malapascua there's abundant macro life like pygmy seahorses, flamboyant cuttlefish, blue ring octopus, frogfish and lots of mandarinfish at Lighthouse dive site. Schooling fishes are less abundant there due to dynamite fishing. Gato island makes for a nice 2 dive day trip from Malapascua with white tip sharks, banded sea kraits and a variety of macro critters.

i would split my week btw Malapascua and Sogod Bay (Whalesharks)

bohol will be good.... was there last September, reef is still very healthy and colourful both in panglao and balicasag islands.... nudis, frogfishes, ghostpipes, plenty of shrimps, schooling barracudas and jacks, white tips and if you are lucky in late afternoons, school of dolphins where the boats will usually stop and let you snorkel with 'em.... stay in Alona beach area and you won't get bored.

Appreciate all the comments everyone.

I've heard that conditions in malapascua is bad. poor reefs, poor weather, exp and lousy food. But i think they have a nice beach right?

Was recommended moalboal as well. So between malapascua and moalboal, which would you guys recommend? I would like a nice beach plus ambience and good diving as well. Feel free to recommend another place that would fit the bill better.

Thanks in advance

poor reefs - Only at certain area.
poor weather - Depends on season.
exp and lousy food - Depends on where you want to stay and eat.
But i think they have a nice beach right - Yes. But again, depends on where you stay.

I would say Moalboal. Went there last time and will be back there in Dec. Pescador island have sightings of threshers and baby sharks regularly. Superbly nice place to relax. Would recommend Club Serena of Moalboal.

Go to subic for diving, its nice there, youll be able to see the ships that sunk during the war, and an underwater aquarium

i have some leave coming up in Apr 2011, i have committed to an Anilao, anywhere else close by that i can go to? thks

google man google. :bsmilie:

Puerto Gelara should be within reach of Anilao.

nothing beats a good old fashioned 'my fren recomm me to come here...'

that's where you are wrong... the best is "i'm a dive pro. am i entitled to discounts?"

usually the answer is yes

((=

what is a dive pro?

Dive Pro means you've certification of DM or higher. With this Cert No, you get discount from Dive operators and resorts.;)
