i'm sourcing for a inkjet colour printer which can print A3+ size for my company, and thought might as well kill 2 birds by getting one which is capable of good photo printouts as well. any recommendations?

budget preferably below $1k, with no brand preferences. looking for a dedicated machine, so no all-in-one types either. i've read that the EPSON Stylus Photo 1290 produces very good photo prints.

any and all user comments and suggestions welcome and appreciated!!! :D

there's a canon promo where you can get a nokia 3530 mms fone wif some of de selected printer models. www.canon.com.sg

I am a satisfied owner of this printer....

but ink leaks once awhile when doing borderless printing... esp A3 borderless prints

Sorry, left this out, Epson 1290 is also good, but a bit on the high side for long term consumption.

you mean the ink leaks at the borders? issit very bad or acceptable? i hear it's quite a ink drinker.

also, how much roughly did you get it for? any1 knows what's the price for the Canon S9000?

Canon S9000
with on-site warranty

If print quality (of photos) is of the utmost importance, then the Epson still bags it.

However for office use the Kwanon is a much better buy as it's a much faster photo printer. Both should be fast enough for text really, have no idea how they compare in that department.

Larry, watch for the banding problem with the Canon S9000, it is known to have that problem. I was also doing some research on A3 printers, went around for some test prints in Funan. Both Canon and Epson gave me their demo, the Epson one left me totally impressed but I can't say the same for the Canon one.

Go for the Epson 1290 or even better, top up about $450 more for the Epson 2100, it is well worth every cent you pay for it, especially if you are into b/w printing, the 2100's greyscale performance is really stunning! What's more? It is blazing fast so to say. I will suggest you take it as an investment, one that is well worth the wait if you need to save up a bit more :)

Oh yes, try to bring two of your best photos (color and b/w) to both sites for a demo, it really helps to ascertain their performance for yourself ;)

Btw, I forgot to add you have to make an appointment with Epson if you want a test run with their 2100 printer, here's the number to call:

EPSON Square - Graphics Art Studio
63341939

Just tell them you want a demo, they will tell you what to do ;)

well i've already got a B&W laser for office work, the A3 printer is more for printing artwork, design mock-ups, that kinda stuff so it's not really essential for super-duper fast speed. i've always thought that Epson does the better job at photo and colour printing, so this concurs with my thoughts...

Larry, it will be about $1400+ plus "something special" if you do the latter. (PS. Try talking to Simon when he is back) ;)

I know about the 2100 and would have told you to go for that, but then it was a business purchase, and to be honest, I wouldn't bother. The 1290 has many areas over the 2100 that businesses will like - single ink tanks (yes you read that right, it's easier to store say two spare cartridges than 12), faster print speed, lower running costs, within the original budget. And the 2100 has no real advantages over the 1290 for a business.

I printed 10pcs of borderless A3 size using 1 ink cartridage (2880 dpi). the leaks are not really tat much do rememer 2 clean the head should b fine

get the 1290 and a couple of continuous ink system tanks (CIS) if u can... that would sort of solve abit of the 'problems' that epsons have wif their print heads... at least it is more cost efficient if u print LARGE :)

epson's ink tanks are cheap....

much much cheaper compared to HP...

... as above... although canon is a budget printer... quailty isnt there....

Epson T007 (black) - $28.50 +/-
Epson T009 (color) - $39.50 +/-

@ sls... the shop beside the escalator on the 4th lvl

Using the Epson 1290U in my office, compared it to the Canon S series, I still like Canon. Strongly recommend the S9000 (price slashed liao)

Larry, I can bring some samples to show u... maybe tmr?
