Recommendation of Underwater Camera

I a newbie in underwater photography. I alway borrow camera from my gf's Bro whenever I go for Diving Trip.

Now, I would like to purchase a camera of my own.

The camera my gf's bro is using - Powershot A720IS which I tink is a gd camera. I m looking for something of the similar spec at ard budget of $500 - $700 inclusive of Underwater Housing.

Any gd recommendation out there?
What kind of detail I should be focusing on when Purchasing the camera?
Any recommended shop to purchase?

I really need some recommendation and advices on purchasing.

I was thinking of getting something easy to use and easy to travel with. I m considering getting canon A1200 or A2200 and get ikelite housing. Wil u recommend that.
Alternatively, I am thinking of getting olympus also as it seems to have variety of choices but problem is, it is not using AA Batt.

Can advice on that?

Recently I've tested Olympus XZ-1 with Olympus PT-050 Housing… and I'll tell you, one of the best PnS camera I've used. Check the 'Review Section' for the camera and its Housing. While it doesn't use AA/AAA batteries… recharging takes about 3hr for each battery and using 2 battery is enough for a full day of diving (4 dive)... one battery is good for 3 dive but it will be flat near the middle of the 3rd dive. Buying a separate battery charger would solve the problem of waking in the middle of the night to swap battery.

I didn't paid anything… since the camera and housing is loaned to me by Olympus/ClubSNAP and I've since returned the whole set.

I won't suggest Sim Lim Sq (SLS) at all… the usual place would be Cathy or MS Color… also heard TK Photo and SLR Revolution is giving good offer. Last I heard… camera is going for $630-650 and casing should be around $300++ maybe lower if you buy the whole package from the same shop.

Be ready to spent about $1k for it.

Thks.. I will Pray hard too.. Saw the news.. Flooding @ Koh Samui and I think Krabi also.. Hopefully the weather will change to better when we head up next wk..
