Recommendation for Macro Lens

Happy birthday to you, Vivien! ;p

I do realise that the colours and image of a 50mm on extension tube is still not as vibrant as those taken from a true macro lens, at least this is comparing my own experience of 50mm with macro vs the macro I see others uploaded. Nonetheless, for myself, I'll only sink my $$ into macro lens after I'm sure I want to dwelve quite a bit into this branch of photography.

Meanwhile, I'm enjoying what 50mm is built to do- street photography. :bsmilie:

Someone gave me an extension tube. Hehe...coincidentally, today's my birthday :bsmilie:

The Minolta 100mm is too expensive, my mum will hang herself if I ask her for it. Slowly save up the money lor... :(
Happy Birthday to you. :cheergal:

Extension tube not bad lar, can couple it with normal lens to do reasonable close-up shots. But not 1:1 lar. Can ask some of the macro experts in Macro forum how they do it. ;)

I tried to use the extension tube with the 50mm prime lens I just bought but it's kinda weird, can't focus at all, whether I use manual or auto. What could have gone wrong?

Your subject must have been too far. Remember, you are doing macro with ext tube with a normal 50mm lens, you must shoot very very close. Try aiming at the pen at your desk, then move your camera closer to your pen without even trying to focus and it'll gradually fall into focus.

try manual focus. No point trying AF.

I tried both. Focusing at near & far objects, but the results are the same. Will give it a shot again & see how it goes.

Maybe try using your ext. tube with another lens see how's the results like? Like a longer focal length one? Just a suggestion...hope it works.

Yeah, it works with my 28-200mm lens. I'm puzzled cos imo, extension tubes are supposed to work better with prime lens?
