Recommendation for free video editing software

Hi guys,

Will anyone be able to introduce a free video editing software or either a low fee video editing software for leisure usage.
Much appreciate it. Video will be done using digital camera(em1 or dslr) Prefer an offline version if possible.

Thank you.

iMovie or Windows Movie Maker, both free.

Shouldn't this be posted in moving images or the video post processing? What computer are you using? iMac can just use iMovie, Windows can use Windows Movie Maker, both come free with the computer. I hate Windows Movie Maker though, but that was back in the days of XP

The new WMM is not bad.. Used it recently to do a 3min video for my department. Surprisingly easy to use and the output was pretty decent to my untrained eye.

I shot my video in 3:2 format using a micro4/3 camera, Olympus E-M10.

However after I have edited in Windows Movie Maker (latest version using on Windows 7), the top and bottom part of the video was chopped off.

I tried both widescreen (16:9) and standard (4:3). All turn out same, with the top and bottom chopped.

Any idea how to prevent this from happening?

That might be a WMM limitation? Not sure. This site recommends two apps that you might be able to use to resize the videos to the proper aspect ratio prior to import. http://superuser.com/questions/127208/cropping-videos-in-windows-live-movie-maker

Lightworks looks like a decent open-source NLE that you could try as an alternative to WMM: http://www.lwks.com/

Why do you just shoot in 16:9? Does the E-M10 even shoot video in 3:2?? Looking at the manual, the video format options are : 1920×1080 (16:9) / 1280×720 (also 16:9) / 640×480 (4:3). Don't see 3:2 actually.
