Recommendation for entry level DSLR

ooooooooooooohhhhh didnt know its much cheaper than i expected.... then i think D3200 FTW

Are you willing to live with the lack of features and no built-in after motor? ;-)

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! hahahahahaha I won't buy that camera.... hahahhahaha

but since one of the brother (not TS) is choosing between the D3100, D3200, 600D and 1100D and only a budget of $800 (refer to the previous few posts), he has asked what camera can he buy with $800... the 600D is definitely out of budget.... initially I remember the D3200 was going for just above 1k at one of the major stores... The D3100 and 1100D are below $800, so it was the other brother who says that the D3200 is around $800+, thats why I think for that budget that the brother have, the D3200 will win over the D3100 and 1100D in terms of specs and value for money... The 1100D is only 12mp, 9AF points and HD video.... Whereas the D3100 has 14mp 11AF points and Full HD video, the D3200 has 24mp, 11AF points and Full HD video.. Specs wise the D3200 is a "sure win" among the 3 models that he is looking at...

BUT I have a 1100D btw hahahaha cos I can use ALL EF and EF-S lens on it, so I still like it :)

Entry Level camera, Pentax K-r win hands down, even though its 12mp like the canon BUT its features and performance: ISO performance- awesome, fps- awesome, HDR mode- very pleasant and pricing wise, bang for the buck hahaha... i am seriously considering buying one for travel usage

You have an 1100D and you are considering getting a K-r for travel usage?
Then what will your 1100D be used for? ;)

Nikon D5100 is selling $799 with standard freebies at TK foto, that under the budget of $800

Thanks everyone for the info! Yea, missed out the D5100 and it is also cheaper than the D3200.
Seems like it is either the Canon 1100D or Nikon D5100.

yup.
That's in the ballpark of what I've seen some Clubsnappers post. Really lots of choices in the $800-$1000 DSLR market now... :) more power to the consumers :)

for what sia.. pls leh i myself got a 60D... hahaha...

All i can say is get a good cheap dslr which u are comfortable with no matter what brand it is doesn't really matters. What matters are the quality of your lenses and of course your skills.
Borrowing a quote from Chase, "the best camera is the one with you".
Besides with all the softwares available (and your creativity) you can always edit your photos. Cheap good camera + good/great lenses + your skills/creativity = great photos. Without any of that, you photos means nothing.

Hi,

I am new here. I came to know this forum through a friend who also likes photography. Anyway, I found that Challenger in Tampines One is selling D3100 and 1100D at good prices. But I did not ask whether the prices are only catered for members.

Anyway, the D3100 is only $699 and the 1100D is only $799. Plus, each kit comes with a camera bag, a tripod and an 8GB SD card. The package also comes with a body and a normal lens.

I still do not know which model is best for me at the moment. I only use a camera during my oversea travels and some outdoor activities.

Are the above-mentioned models considered too simple for amateurs like me? Or are they sufficient for now? Thanks. :)

start a new thread. your questions can't be discussed properly as others will discuss the Thread Starter's Topic.

and it's also rude to crash into someone's thread asking something else altogether
