Recommendation for a camera for work

If that the case and since u not going to take care it....get those second hand body like a550 or a700 and abuse it...:P

i would recommend getting an a700 actually.

Its a really good camera although it is a little old and no live view, but it can shoot tethered which may be useful! I always shoot tethered whenever possible so I can judge the focus and exposure better, because sometimes the LCD cheats you.

Also, the IQ is pretty darn good and it is a pretty hardy camera.

I'm quite sure even if u use the camera to hammer someone's face it will break his jaw and still work well. (lol but dont try pls)

It is also quite cheap if I'm not wrong, just gotta watch the BnS a bit.

I would rather not use my personal camera for work, as I will be leaving the work camera in the office. Plus don't want other people to manhandle my baby;).
BTW can anyone tell me if I can claim tax deduction for buying camera for work?

If you need a camera for work, why is your company not providing or buying one for you.:dunno:
Do they have one ?

Bro, my company has a camera for the job, it's a 10 year-old Canon powershot from back in the days when 5 megapixels was a big deal.
If I ask for money to get a new camera, they'll just tell me to use the old one... You can't win an argument against this kind of management.

I need a camera for work which will be used mainly for portrait-type shots indoors with available light from a distance of 2-3 metres. The pictures will mainly be used for recording purposes (ie. not printed). I think a compact camera should do but with the price of DSLRs coming down (I think the A33 was going for $699), wondering if I should just spend a little more for a budget SLR for the better IQ, which can then double up as a backup camera.
Anyone have experience with the A33, or any compact with decent IQ?

The question is whether u wan to carry the DSLR weight and bulky around or not?

As to compare to compact where u can put it into your briefcase or workbag and carry it around without feeling tired

do a comparison with your DSLR and Office Cam.

show them "picture from my friend's camera" and "picture from the Office Cam"

ask them which they prefer without showing which cam took it.

Do u get paid shooting at work?

If not, use your company camera.

If yes, how much, how long before you can break even? If you get paid decent and can cover the cost of camera in 3-6 months for the price of the camera, go and buy anything that fancy you that fit in the budget.

Any lowest end Sony will do decent job if you know how to use it correctly.

If you just want to have another gear and justify it with work, buy the best you can get your hand on it and use the A65 at work and backup while you have the best gear... And yes, I am serious. Hobby don't follow same logical process.... Hahaha

Hart

Weight and bulk is not a major issue as I intend to park the camera (if I get one) at the office and use it exclusively for work.

I wish I did, but I don't.
It is mainly because of my interest in photography that I thought about getting a better camera for work. As far as my employer is concerned, image quality is not a KPI, and hence not important.

I get your point about getting the best gear I can get my hands on and using the a65 for work. Logic goes out the window in the face of love :bsmilie:
Maybe one day I will follow my heart and not my mind!

if it's just you thinking about the image quality.. then i think it's not advisable to get a cam just for office work.

unless that is your own company.

camera is just like any other office equipments, it will deprecate to zero value after 3 to 5 years on book keeping, since your company see no need of getting replacement, than so be it.

I don't know see what is the need that you want to use your own money to get a camera for your camera, you are setting a bad example, imagine next time your company ask the workers use their own cars to do delivery, ask female stuffs to cook for company activities... etc.

I wish I did, but I don't.

and again, if your company do not see the need, whether you spend your own money, or company's money, you are wasting resources from the company point of view. They may not appreciate it, or they simply take advantage on this.

whatever you do, you need to be 公私分明.

You're right. I never saw it from this point of view before.
