Hi all!

I have infected myself with more poison. I wish to get a decent range finder complete with a lens or two.
Problem is, I can't seem to decide which body I want to ultimately purchase to kick start.

I have however found the the Bessa R4A/M suits my needs for 28MM, 35MM and 50MM which are
Also the lens that I will most likely to select.

Questions:
1. Are there any Leica models that are as versitle as the Bessa R4 (frame lines)
2. How do one actually work the manual lens (haha)
3. What is the best combination for a 3k budget?

thanks in advance and best regards

you can try leica m6 0.58x or the ikon

Zeiss Ikon - the brightest viewfinder ever :)
and all the framelines you need
and super accurate AE

Good Morning!

is the Zeiss Ikon still available brand new or are they all 2nd hands and roughly how much should i expect to pay for one?

Oh and what mount are they?

if i only have 3k.. i would go for an m6 + summicron lense.

All spanking brand new. There use to be a thread on the Zeiss Ikon, a shop selling it at chinatown point.

Price, I cant really remember but just prepare 2k for the body.
All M mounted. They are a whole range of Carl Zeiss ZM lenses to go with the camera.
Here they are:

For a $3k budget, I think you may have to skip the Leica M series; especially if you are looking at more than one lens.

I think the Bessa line would fit the budget more and they are really value for money. Not too sure about the price of Zeiss, but you cannot go wrong with it too.

i think this is the thread in question - http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=425666

based on the latest post, they only have the SW (super wide) left, which might not to too suitable.

28-35-50 is a good range to start with. for the "mid-range" budget, can go for voigtlander, zeiss lenses, or 2h leica.

Zeiss Ikon would be a nice body for 28-35-50 range.

R4* would be fine too, OK for me with the 50 but not to some others.

R2* not so ideal for 28.

it's ok with i'm just with one lens but i hope the one lens can be of 35mm :)

R4a -

+ 35mm f2 Zeiss M Biogon

+ 50mm f1.1 CV

Breaking the bank a little, but it works for me.

Add a 15mm CV to the list later, and i've got my favourites covered!

how does the view finder work for you at the wider range and at 50mm?

R4a i'm not sure, but i'm running on a Bessa R2a.

I haven't done a comparison to Leicas or ZIs, but i have almost zero curiousity how it stacks up against the other VF. because i'm very satisfied with my camera's VF.

You have to know what you wish to do with this camera, because to me, an RF is my lean mean street shooting machine. I wouldn't go beyond 35mm for most of my street shooting, as i find it includes more distracting elements into the picture. 35mm is very much wide enough for me when i'm lurking the streets. The 50mm is when i start to roam at night, and lens speed is of the essence.
Judging by your signature, your DSLR should be able to cover other purposes like nature shooting or photoshoots.

Lenses in general, "lose speed" when they hit below 35mm. I'm both a bokeh junkie and a (very) lowlight shooter. The minimum i'd go for my "staple" lenses are f2. Unless you have an amazing budget and can afford lenses like the 21mm f1.4.. :nono:

The 15mm is for some unique looking daytime UWA snapping, when the mood strikes!

To be honest, i don't own the Biogon nor the f1.1 CV cause i can't afford either yet :D But if i had a 3k budget, that's what i would go for.

You can try this if your budget is S$3K

R2A or R3A + 50/f1.1 + 35/f1.4

Will make you a happy owl.... :bsmilie:

The same setup on L#$@% would cost you about USD20K! :bsmilie:

alternative for an all CV lineup < $3k

R2a + 50f/1.5 (w/ adaptor) + 35f/1.4 + 28f/2

and i was thinking R4A + 35mm/f1.4 Nokton + 28mm/f2 Ultron

Total: $2480 (i've change to buy films ^^):dunno:

Cant go wrong with that :)

If it were me, I'll go for an R3 + 35/1.2 and then save a bit more for the new 50/1.1 ;) Wide open...one of the reasons to do RF right?

Budget $120 for development solution + equipment from Ruby.
$100 worth of Lucky 100 SHD can last you for more than 1 year....

Plus $300 for Canoscan 8800F, will get you a lifetime of satisfaction! :bsmilie:
