My friend passed me his Nikon & Nikkor lens that he kept in a shoe box (not a typo) to keep in my dry cabinet very recently. I look and (wasn't surprised) saw fungus on every single element inside the lens. The camera's in pretty bad shape too - fungus on optics & fungus/dents/corrosion on the body. It's bad but not as bad like it's covered in a layer of mould or something.

Where is a fairly economical place to get the camera & lens cleaned? Those shops I used to know are no longer in existance or have moved. Don't tell me to send to Nikon coz I doub't he'll want to pay. I just can't stand seeing such good equipment go to waste & yet I can't afford to pay too much cos ultimately the camera's still his.

I've just sent a Nikon F2, Nikkor 50 mm and 135 mm to P&G Photographic Centre. This one was given to me by a friend who kept the equipment in a cupboard. The camera requires servicing (shutter jams at low speeds) and the lens elements are like you described, i.e. fungus on all elements. The quote was $350, but it depends on whether the equipment can be saved.

P&G Photographic Centre
1 Coleman Street, B1-04, The Adelphi, Singapore 179803
Tel : (65) 68370696 Fax : (65) 68370697

Another person whom you may see mentioned on Clubsnap forums is:

Camera Hospital
#01-67 Sunshine Plaza
Tel: 9237 3212

I have not had the opportunity to use the latter, because it is situated a little further from Adelphi, but I have heard good reports and he saved a friend's Zeiss Ikon TLR.

I hope this helps.
